Dubas is the little old lady that plays the slot machines. She puts coin after coin into that machine, running it back again and again, believing that if she doesn't keep playing she's going to miss hitting the jackpot.
Agreed with everything you said, but I don't think Chychrun is THE guy. I do like the idea of having Chychrun on this team, but I don't think he compliments Rielly well. I would move Sandin and Robertson and other pieces in a trade for a true no. 1 RHD.
Dubas refuses to trade Kerfoot, Sandin or Robertson for a legit physical rhd. Also a player like Lawson Crouse or Bertussi. Rielly makes to many def mistakes. Holl is a Wright off, Muzzin should retire. Brodie is the only defenceman playing good and he is a second pairing rhd not a top rhd.

Not nearly heavy enough on D. Too light and peripheral up front. Don’t drive centre ice. Sloppy at both blue lines, resulting in odd man rushes. Also too many neutral zone turnovers. PP is also too peripheral, not enough pucks getting to net front, easy to defend. Their light, shinny-type game looks great against loose defensive teams, but is a losing strategy against sound defensive teams.
Hold up. we had Conor Brown, Leo, Hyman and Kadri, and DUBAS traded them away for what?!?!? These were good two-way players who had grit.

I disagree. Every time the Leafs have been knocked out it's because their big guns were no shows. They are the most top heavy team in the league forwards-wise. They have no depth, and it gets exposed once the opposition shuts down the Matthews line.

Dude this team isn't good enough to make the playoffs this year. Every team around them are better this year.
What all those teams also had in the playoffs was lights out tending. We have not had that. Also jake isn't a number 1. Is he hedman? Hell no? Maker? Not even close.

Leafs are way too soft for playoffs. And a #1 D man is the hardest asset to develop or acquire.

Totally 100% agree on Reilly being 2nd and still holding leadership with whatever ringer we bring. I feel like this will be Dubas' last big move before this year's playoffs: acquire THE keystone defenceman we need.. In fact, having someone be "the star" gives Reilly MORE room to lead!

Chychrun is injury prone and isn't the solution. Poink would be a good fit, Nielma and a draft pick or 2 the other way. Sandin is the leafs most physical guy and that's not a good thing. Brodie, Holl and Rielly don't hit anyone, 2 of the 3 need to go. Dubass has given out too many NTC or NMC contracts. If people don't believe Rielly is a number one d-man, than 7.5 million a season for a number two is an overpayment.
What are you talking about Mo isn’t a #1 the last 5 years he has played 266 games with 202 points and is +57 he never had a defence partner until Brodie came. The serious issue this team has is attitude none of these kids want it. They all got their payday and contracts none of them hold each other accountable.
Jacob Chychrun is not the guy tho, he is made of glass and has never played a full season, you can get a guy like Damon severson for Njd who will play the same for less the cost. And replace holl with an actual shut down man like dehaan or gudas.

Most teams don’t trade away top pair RHD and if you do it’s way over priced. The problem is the leafs don’t draft any real defenseman when you already have Reilly locked in you can’t draft sandin, lily, neimela and a bunch of 150lb Europeans to fill the rest leafs never have anything like Hedman, sergachev and good luck trading for one.

I don't think the Defensemen are the problem. Its the coaching style, Its the continuous back passing. The opposition has adjusted there game and don't even apply pressure. Also, they telegraph every movement while in the offensive zone.
Who can you get Muzzin for? That's the only one you can move.
Totally agree on the defensive side. But also they will not win because 75% or more of this team does not have the drive and fearlessness required to push towards a long playoff run.
I commented this exact same thing yesterday on the Kyper podcast. Leafs need a top-5 d-man. Can't win cup without it. Maybe it's Chychrun, maybe someone else.
Question is what do Leafs have to give up to get a top-5 D? Needs to be a big contract like Nylander, plus prospect or 1st. Fans won't like it.

If the leafs can't score 5 on 5 they won't win any playoffs. The D is not scoring. They are 29th in the NHL for scoring even strength.

Remember Brown, Kadri and Hyman? The cores cap lost us some good players because they wanted elite money for not passing tue 1st round. I hate Marner and Mathiews because they have no heart or drive, they float amd when other teams work them they quit.
