Our defense sucks, and it's not like the injured bodies are Bobby Orr and Denis Potvin. A good Offense, suspect goaltending, really, Dubas…where are you taking us???
On the subject of us folks outside TOR supporting the Leafs, I grew up in Buffalo. Apparently I like suffering? 😅
My thought on the possibility of firing Keefe are the same as my thoughts on the possibility of trading Nylander (which I've been talking about for years). It's not that they aren't good – it's that they aren't necessarily what the TEAM NEEDS in order to be good.
We can continue trading on how good Keefe's record is up to this point but if he isn't moving the team forward – which you can argue he isn't – then you go out and get somebody who has, and can. Keefe's winning % is great – what's his winning % in the Playoffs? He won't get fired IMO, he's Dubas' guy, but it's worth thinking about.
To say they don't need a coaching change is a little absurd, maybe it's apathy that has the leafs lack of effort this year same old strategies with the same old results. This is exactly what a coach's job is… get them motivated to play get them to start on time, get the forwards tk stop cheating and to give their defense some more outlet passes. To get next to 0 effort forechecking wise in the Las Vegas game and the VERY NEXT game they take more penalties due to them being on the wrong side of the play. Lahey are just letting the puck get to the player and the moving to intercept but by then player has already moved it on.
All of these things start happening when the coach has lost the ear in the room, and that's what it feels like here. Whether it's a trade for top pairing d man or middle of the pack d man or maybe a Stanley cup pedigree coach that is well known for his structured team play…. ahem trotz… something needs to be shaken up.
Despite scoring, this was the laziest performance I’ve ever seen matthews give. He might aswell carefully tiptoe on the ice when forechecking . Absolute zero effort.
Not a fan of the leafs but holy shit nothing fucking get me more annoyed then fucking talented players fucking coasting for no reason other than they're not interested like who hurt you how are you not interested in WINNING so the option is healthy scratch them their top players for a couple if games
On the note of standings the Flyers are 7-2-0 and are leading the metro, whilst the CBJ are 3-5-0 and last in the division. The Habs are 4-4-0 and last in the Atlantic, but crucially only 1 point behind Florida and the Leafs. So in the east every team is so close that the Leafs can go for conference winners but also for the tank for Bedard
When they lose steve is shouty shouty blue man. When they lose on overtime he's just shouty blue man.
If Steve ran for Prime Minister and won. I would watch CPAC. At least Gov't would be entertaining. "IF YOU ARE THE OFFICIAL OPPOSITION, DON'T JUST OPPOSE!"

Last night, Marchand said he's pain-free for the first time in 6 or 7 years. He started becoming an elite player in the 2015-16 season, and he has been since the following season. Does this mean he'll get even better?

I'll call it now… either they don't make the playoffs at all or are out 1st round again. And dubas and kiefe better be fired… I like Dubas but he doesn't understand physicality in hockey whatsoever.
I hate people talking about Kiefes win record.. does nothing for them in the playoffs and the last few years the Eastern conference teams were not as strong as they were in the past or even now. (Buffalo, Montreal, Ottawa, Jersey, Detroit, Philly)

Remember when you were so excited that Tavares signed with Toronto? Overall if you could have it to do over, would you rather have Tavares the last few years, or spend that salary on 2 or 3 solid depth pieces or a premier d-man?.

Is it possible that this team is burnt from 1st round losses? I mean, thinking about it, most Leaf’s fans said that last seasons team was “the best iteration of the Toronto Maple Leafs”. Does the team know that too? Did the loss to Tampa just floor the whole Leafs team to not care anymore? Because from a fan of another team looking from the outside in, it seems like the team has acted pretty lackluster since the season began. Even in wins, this team just doesn’t seem like they wanted it. More that they felt happy that a win fell in their laps.

When you can't have leadership from your top guys on the team then you ain't got it to win. Character is not something you can buy, it's either in you or it's not. This team is like a gold digger hoe, it looks great, loves money but no heart.

all comes down to lack of competitiveness, toughness, grind. I don't care how talented these guys are when push comes to shove they are mentally weak against any resistance. trade some of these superstars who collapse when it gets tough
