  1. Welcome home JT and all you NYI fans bashing john for leaving the isles can suck his 11 million dollar nuts. He wanted to play for his childhood team, who now have a chance for a cup. All the best with Matt Martin and Leo komarov LMFAO

  2. All this John Tavares hate and jersey burning is awful…By the way he plays, any sensible person can tell that Tavares was and is a loyal player. But his heart was just never fully with the Islanders. He was certainly committed to the Islanders while he was there. He played for them and did everything that was expected from an Elite player. He felt devotion to the Islanders and didn’t request a trade because perhaps his mind just wasn’t made up yet? Maybe he felt that the Islanders were finally onto something? Who knows. But his loyalty was always back home, in Toronto. He always dreamed of playing there. It’s no secret. That’s just how it is and you can’t really fault someone for feeling a certain way. He did what he could for them but the constant mismanagement of the franchise didn’t help either. He can’t carry a team and they seem to often trade away his best wingers too. The guy clearly didn’t mean to “betray” or deceive anyone. Fans have a right to be upset. Of course! You lost your best player. That sucks. But I really doubt that he wanted to deceive anyone. He simply just didn’t know what he fully wanted when he requested not to be traded. He is human after all. And seeing where he is in his career, and the position the Leafs are in, especially after dreaming of playing for them since he was a kid? Come on, people. It’s as if the stars aligned perfectly for him. He wouldn’t have got another chance at this opportunity. I think any player would have a difficult time turning down something like this. I can’t speak for him but that’s just what it looks like, to me.

  3. Owners and Snow are to be blame! They control the cards, not JT! If JT wasn't going to sign by the trade deadline, he should have been traded. Now he walks away for nothing. Reminds me of Jeremy Lin of the Knicks.

  4. Welcome Home Johnny.JT spent 8 years on Long Island and never raised the Cup.JT deserves a Stanley Cup and so does Toronto.Kyle Dubas GM for the Leafs is a whiz kid to pull this off.JT will be wealthy beyond his imagination.
Canadian corporate sponsors will flood him with cash.
Can't wait to get the season starting.
Leafs are replicating Chicago Blackhawks days with Patrick Kane /Jonathan Toews making runs for the cup.

  5. Leafs beat Islanders all three games last season. That did the trick especially that last game Jan 31/18 where Toronto beat Islanders 5-0 …..JT must have been impressed.

  6. JT if you want to piss off the New York fans can you throw out the first pitch of the Jays/Yankee game this weekend in Toronto July 6-8th.
Or least sit in a box and we will have the camera put you on the big screen.

  7. Tavares played out his contract. He owes nothing to gift the islanders players or draft picks before leaving. People need to get over themselves.

  8. Its bloody hilarious how Islander media and fans feel like they can shame him for not returning. He didnt sign a career contract with isles. He performed the best he could for the agreed upon contract length
Not a chance he gets this hate for desiring to go home if there was a return for him via trade at the deadline or earlier.Whos fault is that ..Tavares you say or…maybe its the team that gave him his no trade clause.Maybe they should have structured his contract so that they could trade him in his final season.
If he didnt agree to that back then again thats a choice the team made at that time in order to resgn him years ago.

  9. Everyone is mad cause they don't wanna see the leads be good ,so they expect John to ask for a trade so they can gut the leafs amd to not have a future .. Good job John u did the right thing leaving them in free agency

  10. as a leaf fan heres what i think happend, jt knew he wanted to go to Toronto and if he told the islanders that they would have tried to get 1 of Matthews marner or nylander, and if taveres were to come with them after that trade it would runied there dynasty for the future…. GO LEAFS GO!

  11. He was always a leaf in the heart and an islanders in the jersey.

  12. Im sorry Isle fans, but some of you are burning this guys jersey. reallllly? come on, you had him for 9 years an still couldnt do jack with it. Its not like he left you for the Bruins, or Sharks, or somewhere random. Theres a big difference between selling out to a random team and deciding to leave money on the table and return HOME. After alllll those years, do you not think this guy deserves a chance to live his DREAM. come on people. groooww up lol

  13. I'm done with you, LMAO. I can keep calling you a loser like your team for 50 years!. What do you, your team, and JT all have in common? YES, YOUR ALL LOSERS. YOU FOR LIFE, JT 9 YRS AND 7 MORE, AND THE MAPLE LEAFS FOR 50 AND COUNTING! FOR THE LAST TIME TAKE YOUR JT IN PAJAMAS PICTURE ALONG WITH YOUR MIKE PALMATER BOBBLEHEAD AND GO NI NIGHTY NITE!

  14. rob morrison is a bitch

i'm sure everyone in the comments apart from mr morrison himself would agree with me

  15. Why would he ask for a trade to Toronto? Islanders would have probably had a stupid high asking price that dubas and shannahan wouldn’t be willing to pay. So they got him for free. I get islanders fans are sour with this guy but realistically speaking the people to blame are ledecky/Malkin and Garth snow. They slowly ruined that team year by year. I truly hope islanders fans don’t boo or trash this guy on his first game in New York. He literally MADE the islanders who they are.

  16. Islanders fans should be pissed off at their management for doing absolutely nothing to surround Tavares with quality players, Tavares..a superstar centre was on a sweetheart 5 million dollar deal for nearly a decade, 5, FIVE! million! Don't blame JT.

  17. I absolutely love how he ditched NYI. That organization did absolutely nothing for him while he was there, I mean you can’t find a decent goalie throughout 9 years of his career? And you still lack that and expect him to re-sign? It’s about the cups, he was going to get paid anywhere anyways. From the teams Toronto makes sense as does Tampa but who would want to take less money and play on Tampa while Toronto gives the same opportunity if not better and for many more years than Tampa.

I hope this changes how players view the whole NHL thing and how they just staple themselves to 1 team throughout their career.

  18. Sucks for Islander fans but the team has been in a downward slide for years. He has a real chance in Toronto

  19. Im sure Islander fans are devastated. A franchise that was 30th in attendance last season and has consistently played in front of half empty buildings. Im not saying there isn't die hard islander fans but its nothing compared to Toronto. If islander fans want to lay blame they should first lay it on ownership over the last couple of decades and then, ultimately, themselves for clearly being apathetic towards the team.

  20. what goes around comes around. Nothing but bad fortune has come this man's way since signing with Toronto.
