I have the perfect thing to turn this around: Connor Bedard. Of course that won’t help for this season but what if next season you could ice a top line of Bedard, Gaudreau and Laine?

C-bus has no heavies, nor effective centers. Elvis had inadequate tutelage, and Korpi has been minimizing PK time for years, pulling the puck out of the net as often as not. Lars & his line coach haven't shuffled the proper lines, and no team is afraid of any 5-man squads on ice. Letting Foligno go (and o so many others) annihilated faith from the gates to the skates.
Seeing a number of fans blaming the awful D on Gudbranson I went ahead and took a look myself cause I really haven't noticed him being out there for all these goals. So the past three games with 17 goals he's been on the ice for 2 goals. 1 5vs5 and 1 on the PK. Considering his shifts are predominantly in the defensive zone I don't expect him to have a good corsi so he's hardly been the problem. I'm sure he'll be made a scapegoat anyway while the other Dmen get a pass. Jiricek has a really nice shot but he's not looked good defensively making the situation worse.
THEE #1 A++ asset of the franchise CBJ has that flies under EVERYONE'S radar: they have the best broadcast duo you'll hear. Jeff Riemer and Jody Shelley keep their fandom totally apart from their job during the game. It creases me that on the rare occasion a CBJ game slides into national replays or game time, the big networks eschew Bally's for the other teams' commentators.
What's gone wrong? BRAD FUCKING LARSEN IS WHAT'S WRONG! we hated him as an assistant…. we hate him more as a head coach. As a fan base we have wanted Larsen fired for 5 years. You take the issues CBJ had under torts he was in charge of have only worsened (pp and goal scoring) under him. We are losing trust in the office because of this hire. I'd take a local high school coach over Larsen at this point.
Not a BJ's fan but I'm a fan of their expansion cousins Wild. So all BJ's need to do is draft a superstar in the 5th round .
Shannon they are not making the playoffs. There is no energy on this team, no effort and no one cares. Absentee captain and a stupid head coach. This team sucks. Embrace the tank for bedard.

Videos like this are what make me respect Shannon so much. Will it get as many views as the toronto look through 10 games? No. Is it just as high in quality? Yes. No other hockey creator would give such attention to each and every team. thanks!
i hate to ask this but i do wonder if the PTSD from the Matiss tragedy is affecting Elvis. He stated the cannon going off actually affected him a lot…
either way, our defense is just straight trash if we are letting off all these shots…

If I were asked to name the 32 teams in the league, Columbus obsolutely the LAST team that would come to mind. They are nameless, faceless, and have rarely done anything of note. Unfortunately, they are a sad waste of an NHL franchise in America.

Sounds to me like a Trotz -type defensive minded coach would be priority #1 . Those defensive stats are terrible & even w/ Laine , I don't think they have enough offense to overcome 4 + ga / gm.
Seems like they miss Bjorkstrand & Texier more than anyone thought but if you are struggling offensively, then the coaching staff has to emphasize defensive structure to give you a chance.

i have come to terms with this is going to be a throw away year. We have help on D coming and don't hate the idea of dropping down for this draft class.
Coach might sound like an easy answer, but when confidence keeps getting brought up and the team doesn't look like it's putting in enough effort, there's really no other call you can make. The Laine/Gaudreau Power Play should not be scoreless, even if Laine was out for a significant period of time.
Love this team, but it's insanely frustrating to see what on paper is a great group get absolutely demolished on the ice.

To me, watching them play, it is a player problem, not a coaching problem. You can have the best coach in the world but if your players are just jogging around like they have been, it’s not gonna matter

The defense has basically been non existent. And if I were Jarmo, that’s where I’d start. And then look at goalie. Disappointing start to the season.

This team looks horrible. There are two things I can point to that are wrong with the team. One of them is, the goaltending has been atrocious. Not everything is on the goaltending, the defense has certainly also been bad, but Elvis advanced stats are the worst in the league, there have been a lot of soft, low danger goals. I think in the Pittsburgh game there were 3 out of 6 low danger goals according to moneypuck. Soft goals happen, but something is up with Elvis head.
More generally something is up with everyone's head on this team. Never before have I seen such lackadaisical effort from the typical effort guys like Sean Kuraly and Boone Jenner. We've seen this lack of production from Jenner before, so I am not necessarily worried about Jenner, but it does look like the team is squandering the talent and has no motivation. And the personnel choices are questionable, THG mentioned not pulling Elvis in the 7-1 New Jersey loss. Eric Robinson has done next to nothing, Matthieu Olivier has done literally nothing, but they keep getting minutes as the lines get reshuffled over and over.
Brad Larsen is not a motivator. I'm done with him. Let's start there and see if someone else, anyone else, can figure out how to get these guys to have some confidence in themselves.
This mess is all on Jarmo from where I’m sitting: his bad contracts, his place-holder coach. His inability to address the shortfalls at 1C and on the blue line. I don’t blame him for signing Johnny Hockey – who wouldn’t?! – but now he’s got no cap space left.

It has been a very hard start to the season thus far. Fans expected the team to be competitive and so far they look like a team that doesn’t care at all. The young guys have played okay but the veteran leadership has been atrocious- they truly look like a team with no leader
Defense, coaching and cohesion. They are a team with a good number of offensive players that doesn't have much defensive ability which puts the blue line on a lim, a blue line that is already stretched and isn't exactly stellar. Keeping Laine instead of Bjorkstrand might not have been such a good move on the short term. What points to coaching is the lack of cohesion and the fact that they despite a lot of offensive ability can't play powerplay or doesn't seem to be dominating the puck nor the tempo of the game.

2 things in my opinion could make a big difference. 1) A Defensive Defenseman. We are allowing so many goals because we simply can't defend. We're really soft when it comes to clearing out rebounds and battling in front of our net. 2) FIRE BRAD LARSEN!!! We brought this guy in to develop our young players and he's doing the exact opposite by dumping all the blame on them. He's been the sole reason that our power play sucks too. Since 2017 when he came in as an assistant our power play has been towards dead last in the league every season. This dude is a straight clown, bring in Barry Trotz
You should do a series called "The (X) Nine Games" where (X) takes a look at each team after the first 9 games, then the second 9 games, then the third 9 games, and so on. And you can point out the differences for teams and who they played against over that period. and carry it through the season until the last regular season segment called the final 10 games (9×9=81, so you would do 8 weeks of videos covering 9 games each and the last vidoe would cover the final 10 regular season games).
IF there's a coaching change, I wouldn't be surprised if they try to bring someone back like Adam Foote or Jared Boll in the interim. Boll's still in the org, and Foote was coaching AHL someplace I think. Shaw's got the coaching skills by now, but Torts knew it and needed it, so got Philly to sweep him up.
For me, Larsen needs to go, quick. I think he’s the one that doesn’t hate to lose and that mentality is rubbing off on our young team. Danforth and Blankenburg went down to injury and the team’s whole demeanor changed. Those guys were the energy source for those wins we’ve had. Larsen not pulling Elvis against NJ was the last straw for me. Not only was he showing frustration, he was also rubbing his fingers like he was in pain and that was blatantly ignored. Larsen needs to go, bottom line.
I would not mind the CBJ losing and getting a chance at the number one pick if it did not gut the team. I do not believe you can lose the way they are losing and not have a long term bad affect on the teams psychology. Great job as always Shannon!

Fire Brad Larsen. Something has to change and you can’t allow the development and trajectory of the franchise to tank after showing promise. If you watch them play there’s no cohesion or any type of system present and that’s unacceptable.

What's wild is that Pens game had CBJ utterly humiliating Pitt in the first period in a number of ways, but once the second period started it's like the team didn't even want to play. And outside the Rangers game it's looked like that, but progressively worse in every game. It's amazing how good they were in the first period against Pitt and how fast everything fell apart.
