Brendan Shanahan “comes in with tremendous status”. As what? A player? Working in the department of player safety? I’ll tell you one thing he didn’t have “tremendous status” in. Being a president of a NHL team. Because he didn’t do it before coming here. Same goes with Kyle DUmBASs. Never was a NHL general manager before he was handed the job here. Wanna keep going? Sheldon Keefe. What a shocker. Never coached a NHL team before his best buddy handed him the job here. Anybody see what’s wrong here? The 3 main guys running this organization had zero experience in their roles before coming here. Everyone remember the “Shanaplan?” Was part of that plan letting a rookie GM sign a free agent to a 7 year 77 million dollar contract as his very first move in the NHL? Was that part of the “shanaplan?” This team had as bright a future as any team in the league 5-6 years ago and it went downhill every year since. If you told me in 2016-2017 that 6+ years later we’d have zero playoff series wins I would of never believed you. Nobody would of believed you. But hey, it’s the Toronto Maple Leafs. When things are going good they find a way to screw it up. Plans working perfectly so they change the plan. Nobody in sports beats themselves better than this organization.

Kyper and bourne, great show. Here is a stat for you, no American #1 center on a nhl team has won a cup. Secondly, Matthews, Eichel, Larkin all been in the league awhile, and are #1 American centers, have a total of zero playoff round wins…

As far as forwards go the Flyers are missing Couturier, JVR, and Atkinson.
Right off with the Justin Holl nonsense. This show suffers from Larry Murphy Syndrome. Holl played a prettysolid game.
I think its embarrassing that Matthews let a 40 year old man defend him. Matthews should have helped Gio.
If somebody took a run at Marner, what would Austin do?
This is all on Dubas. Leafs must carry a Goon on the Bench. Why put Matthews in this position at all. And don't talk about Engval's physicality if the Leader of this team is a coward. Matthews is a big man and he sets the culture of this team.

I find I'm still in the sane place completely pessimistic on the fringe of hope…
I think Dubas has created exactly the type of time of he operates cerebral player with good analytics/potentials. Tavares is a positive version this but like all of his pick lack passion to have emotional response to start with a fire in there belly (like Boston has this year) They have the talent but not the conviction this culture issue. Core for have emotions but have thin skin and have no pride to take it to all opponents. The other key area I noticed is none of players he has picked have playoff success in the forwards. (Other then older guys) If they want convictions have all Ontario based bottom 6 the will unite bring home Stanley cup. Drove me crazy the Strome didn't get an offer or have players like Evan rodrigues, Josh Brown, Colin Miller who is Sault guy.
They need a major shake up
I like Kiefe but he has no power in this culture, Trotz isn't going to sugar coat and make them play effectively and has experience.
Line up change needed to happen finding ways to swap out injury prone players not add them.
Where at know I would hope for a Major shake up like Nylander Holl Trade for Toews at 50% Murphy deal get a strong defensive partner for Reilly and reasonable player back in Toews.
One can dream but I think we are pretty likely go the same route or just squeeze buy if we're lucky to a second round…
