This team is as fragile as a delivery to The Parkers in December. You're not going to fix that by firing the coach or trading away one or 2 players. Bringing in Sidney Crosby wouldn't fix this team. Yes, the D core is as shallow as a kiddie pool, but the meltdowns and just ridiculous. Thatcher Demko covered up for a lot last year, and if he's just an average goalie, that's not going to get it done. Too many forwards aren't willing to back check, and when you have a defence that is as shallow as the Canucks is and you add injuries to that, they don't have a chance. If anything, they're exactly as advertised. They're ebbs and flows in games. The Canucks have the offence to come out and get leads, but eventually you're going to have to defend those leads, especially late in games, and since the Canucks don't have the defensive structure, the personnel or the elite goaltending they had last year to do that, it's a foregone conclusion. Demko was the primary reason they went on that insane run last year and almost made the playoffs. Without him, this is exactly what would have happened. Yes, the team is fragile now, but Demko was covering up for these bad defensive miscues last year. He isn't this year, so the team is getting exposed. Nobody paid attention to Miller's awful defensive play because he scored 99 points and Demko was always there to bail him out. That's not happening now, and maybe this team needs to look in the mirror and actually try to bail Demko out just once. Bieksa was right in his speech, but the Canucks were much deeper on D in 2011. Not as deep as 1994, but deeper than this. What we saw against Anaheim was pretty much how the Canucks have to play every game, because they don't have the personnel to defend, so they have to try to blow teams out of the rink every night.
