Good show today until Mr Cordasco once again asserted that VGK's have a 'goalie controversy'. THERE IS NO GOALIE CONTROVERSY. What is this really? Nothing more than Tony-Code for "McCrimmon is incompetent and McCrimmon has made a mess of the salary cap," and neither is correct. There is NO goalie controversy and the handling of the salary cap is masterful. Why is there no goalie controversy? Is there a forward and defenseman controversy when a team has 13 forwards and 7 D-Men? Absolutely not. To have good players Number 21, 22 and 23 and even 24, is a very good thing, is a luxury and smart if it adds up less than the cap. And that's the case with VKG. They have/had 24 players (one over the limit), all salaries totaling less than the cap max. A half-dozen NHL teams now wish they had a third goalie with their starter and back-up injured. McCrimmon is not incompetent as Mr Cordasco implies. Mr McCrimmon has not made a mess of the salary cap – he's put a lot of depth into this roster and kept the price under the cap. As I wrote here a month ago, there are/were a few options with Brossoit. Trade him immediately after leaving IR or send him to Henderson for rehab games. If he performed well after Henderson, he's eventual trade bait. If he flunks, which he did, put him on waivers, which MGT did today. Brossoit will likely clear waivers, go to Henderson and MGT gets $1.125 mil cap relief. While Tony fails to see the obvious, the team is succeeding under the McCrimmon Plan. Tony may not understand this strategy, but VGK MGT does. Brossoit could not be traded until AFTER coming off IR. He went to Henderson. He failed. Now he's waived and the team gets cap relief. The roster is 23 players, with $1.125 mil in cap space. See, Tony. It all worked out. There is not goalie controversy. My opinion – this would be a much, much better show with Mr Gawlik only.
Just how good is this team? The record for the most points in the first 15 games of a season is held by the '84-85 Oilers. They went 12-0-3 for 27 points. The VKG record for the first 15 games of '22-23 is 13-2 for 26 points. And Mr Cordasco said that Mr McCrimmon is on the 'hot seat' and will be the first GM to be fired. This is why Mr Gawlik should do all the talking.
