Podkolzin and Hoglander are casualties of this team not having a clear understanding of what it is. The team tries to borrow a page from Benning's "Win now to get one round of playoffs" mentality and sign a bunch of forwards in the off-season without addressing a longer-term need on defence. The overcrowded forward situation means Podkolzin and Hoglander have to ride the pine and not have meaningful minutes to play to develop properly. I fear for the worst for these two guys, and their development are likely going to be ruined because of poor asset management of the team in not trading away some older forwards for younger d-men that would help the team in a rebuild.
