  1. You will be missed Borje. And never forgotten. You broke the doors down for European players

  2. Everything you said about Canucks player development is exactly the same Edmonton! Especially on the goalie front! It's insane that Schwartz still has a job!

  3. Salming and Bobby Orr were the 2 of the most famous examples of the emergence of scoring defensmen in the NHL. Salming and Orr were also incredible defensively as eell

  4. The easiest way to say it is, Boston is very Good and Vancouver Stinks, So their ya Go!

  5. Karlsson gets no recognition? Listed every possible leader except D-man in points.

  6. RIP Börje Salming so relieved the organization had the special weekend in Toronto with him and his family and close friends.

  7. The problem with Vancouver is that they draft small, soft players. I dont care how skilled you are, when all it takes is to play you hard and hit you to make you obsolete??? We need size.

  8. October gives us a long enough break between all of that Family-Turkey Time – can't imagine seeing all those people and that much food again just a month later o.0

  9. That Börje tribute hits so much harder now. I love that he got to see how loved he was one last time. I would say I hope he really felt the love but I think his face showed he did. RIP Börje.

  10. I watched the leafs from 73 when I was 2 yrs old and my Nan, parents would watch love the skinny swede along with Turnbull Sattler Tiger and Lanny still love the leafs but Salming and Sundin are my 2 favorites of all time. Love you!!

  11. Hockey Guy, with all due respect —- when you talk about the Canucks "player development issues" and certain players with problems—— you failed to mention who the Canucks "player development" people are. None other than Daniel and Hendrik Sedin, with Mikael Samuelson and Mike Komisarek. Maybe these guys aren't suited for the job, but to criticize the Sedin Twins is unheard of in Vancouver, unfortunately. There's more people to share the blame, but the Sedins should not be untouchable.

  12. Salming Hammerstrom the 1st two Swedish players to make the jump.
One of the best peace be with him

  13. Us Finns have a well noted brotherly hatred for Sweden and all things Swedish, but in all seriousness, nothing but respect to Salming. Man was a pioneer and a legend. He played a little before my time, but I know he was one of the people who paved the way for many European players that came after him. My heart goes out to his family and the Swedish hockey community.

  14. When I saw Steve Dangle show Salming being brought to the ice before the game between Vancouver and Toronto on Steve's Hat Picks, I knew it was a question of when his last day on Earth would come, not if it would come. Toronto brought him into the league while Ballard was in prison for tax evasion. About 20 years later, they would trade for another Swede in Mats Sundin. And now look at the amount of Swedish players who have come and went through the Maple Leafs organization.

  15. I’d love to see the video on Canucks players that they’ve given up on and have played better on other teams.

  16. Why are we talking about player development issues when it comes to the Canucks? The new player development team hasn't had enough time to really show what they can do with the players they have in the pipeline. I know they don't have a whole lot to work with, but there is talent there for them to work with. Give them at least two to three years for christ sake.

  17. The problem with them. There freaking lazy. No coach or anyone can help. Them, it there mind set. I play. To get paid. Same with maples

  18. Canucks just need patience in developing and building a team. Too much rushing is why it feels like a never ending rebuild.

  19. Listen, the Canucks suck, but it isn't the players…its the coaching, I've been watching hockey since 1973, and when you have pieces like Horvat,Hughes,Demko and Miller…you should be giving average teams a hard time on a nightly basis, and upper echelon teams a reason to come out with a hard on for ya. …not to mention they have some pretty tough secondary scoring in Boeser, Petterson ,Garland etc… look at it for what it is, sometimes things are as plain and simple as they appear to be…Boudreau, and Green before him,…what have they ever accomplished in their coaching careers in all honesty? Shit!! They both haven't done shit…
I'm a long time isles fan and can appreciate how frustrating it can be to watch a team flounder year in and year out, and I gotta tell tell ya, after Tavares bolted for Toronto , just as it appeared that things were looking up with Lou & Barry coming in, I lost all hope again , but then holy canolli's, what a transformation?? All by the proper coaching staff…real pro's, and things headed north from there, keep in mind, the islanders were going on the cheap for coaching also,in prior years before LL & BT…

  20. Podkolzin came from Europe straight onto the Canucks roster, so did we really develop him? Not like Lockwood who has been on the farm for years working with our staff

  21. I'll say as a Swede I didn't initially have any real interest in Borje. He was far beyond my time but the more interviews and videos of him I watched, the more he grew on me, not because of his achievements but because he seemed so humble and such a great guy, what he had done on the ice was only a plus. Some stars fake it, but sometimes I feel you can really tell it is genuine, and I think Borje belongs to that category.

  22. Grew up watching Salming play, had his poster on my wall- no chance i do that with any Leaf now! He was one of the two first swedes in the NHL (with Inge Hammarstrom a winger). He was one of the top dmen of his era who lead a pretty good Leafs team for many years. He was a pioneer and far from the 'typical Swede' derogatory descriptor. RIP Borje.

  23. Player development is a tricky one. I think that in so many ways it comes down to intangibles and how so few people really understand what they are: culture, evaluation, player bonding, internal competition, coaching, life skills, let alone how important they are and how broadly they affect people.
Why do players do well in Boston and you move them and then they don't play so well any more? Some teams get it. But how do you take an AGM who has worked in Boston for years and move him to Vancouver and none of the intangibles migrate with him?

  24. 1. R.I.P. Börje Salming.
    2. THG not even mentioning Pettersson says something about the Canucks' problems.
    3. In Canada and just about every other country in the world not named USA, it's just another day of the week.

  25. Please watch Football or soccer leagues like La liga or English Premier league… and watch how they recruit. Theres no "draft" you scout young players from other countries and find talent … and have development camps from junior to senior team. this is basics and hockey seems to have a garbage system for youth so nothing ever comes for one team while other team hogs all players and talent. needs a full large overhaul.

  26. can u please dig deep in to the la kings and how bad they have drafted in the first round the last couple years. Byfield to be a bust. the other guy draftet at number 5 is not even a point per game in the ahl 3 years after his drafting. in all kings forum they are saying that its fine but i think that they are doing it wrong specially when they are not giving them the time to devolop in the nhl. they sign fiala and danough and arvidsson instead of giving the young ones icetime. i mean drafting+trading+signing. And now we are a older team without any prospect even tho we have been tanking for 7 years.

  27. Wright looked like a monster in his 2nd ahl game.
I think he'll come back after this stint and play like he belongs for a couple games until juniors

  28. I believe that Chicago also had Him (Gustav Forsling) & also Passed on Him. Let me know if I'm right, or, if it is A Different Forsling, but, I think I'm right and that He was On Chicago.

  29. I think that For The First 2 or so year (or, years), Drafts/Rookies should be able to Send Players Up & Down, & No Waiver Issues.

  30. Bill Zito will gladly take your castoffs, Vancouver…….and everyone else 😈😈😈

  31. glad Salming got the send off he received at the home game… it was like he knew the end was near

  32. As European players came in they face a lot of scrutiny.

Pretty sure half of that was from Don Cherry

  33. RIP Borje Salming.
Is there any one player who did more to make NHL hockey an international thing? Massive credit to him for being an invaluable builder in addition to a hall of fame player.
