Frustrating. They look good offensively at 5v5. They just keep shooting themselves in the foot with penalties/the PK.

Penalties have been absolute killers these last 3 games and is something that has to be addressed. 7 tonight, 7 last night and I think 5 on Monday and led to 5 goals in this stretch. Yeah the refs have been brutal but so has goaltending and we’ve been pretty good on 5v5 and on our PP but need to stop giving up big chances

They outplayed Colorado 5v5 but the special teams and discipline became their liability. I think if they stay out of the box the sabres win this game. Young team will learn from this, overall they played very good tonight.
BARDLER
Another game where they outplayed the other team considerably 5v5 and lose because of special teams.

The last two losses you can’t score 5 and 4 and lose. You just can’t.
VeryFarDown
Was planning on going to the Sabres store tomorrow to buy retro gear but damn does this team make it hard to spend money on it.

Wanted that point, played well at 5v5, but we killed ourselves with our sloppy penalties, except the last one which was bullshit

We played with the Lightning and Avalanche this week. We are moving in the right direction, we just need to stop making rookie mistakes.

I don’t think the Krebs/mitts/olof experiment was very effective.
UPL again with trouble finding the play through screens. This isn’t OK and I don’t see this being fixed. This is my « he’s not the guy » reason. If you haven’t figured it out by now, it’s not happening.
I thought we played to their level. Moral victory, like usual. As has been stated a dozen times, our PK/penalties killed us.

I wish we had consistent goalie play…Miss you Ryan Miller

The Good:
– 5v5 offense is as good as it’s ever been. Still a little weakness on the third line, but the rest make up for it by far.
– PP is looking far improved. Plenty of time spent in the offensive zone now.
– Peterka-Cozens-Quinn line still the best young line in the NHL.
The Bad:
– Penalty kill is… well, it’s still not good. Yes, Colorado has the best PP in the league. And I was actually impressed with how the Sabres were looking on the first part of the 5-on-3. But 3/6 on the PK isn’t the greatest.
– Goaltending. Needs fixing. Badly.
– DEFENSE! Defensive play has been dirt poor. Letting in far too many goals. Scoring 4+ goals in games and still losing is just sad.
– Mitts and Olof, while being more noticable this game, still need to be split up. Just to try. Please.
The Ugly:
– PENALTIES! Penalties everywhere! 30 penalty minutes the past two nights alone! If we keep taking so many penalties, these teams are going to keep making us pay. Especially teams like Tampa Bay, like Colorado, like Boston, like New Jersey. These teams will eat us alive on the power play, and I hope it’s much less of a problem moving forward.
On to Columbus!

We will never win with this piss poor discipline.. you can not take this many penalties. Don’t care about the refs.. stop putting your stick and arms on people

Penalties keep killing us these last few games. Some of them have been absolutely brain dead too.

They continue to control possession but don’t really do a lot with it. Defensively they make the right choices everywhere but in their own zone. And worse, is the amount of ridiculous stick penalties. Granato preaches to be active with your stick and I think this is a result of that. He’s coaching college-level traits, not NHL.
Not a bad game on the back end of a back to back against an elite team. And really no major warts to point out (UPL wasn’t great, but he wasn’t horrendous).
Happy to see Krebs back, but I’m assuming the phantom call means he gets to “learn from his mistakes while watching from the press box”.

Correct me if I’m wrong…
Power has now had Delay of Game penalties in back to back games, yes?
We can’t blame the refs if we’re pointing a rocket launcher at our own feet and pulling the trigger.
