  1. JP has a lot of struggles. Maybe part of it is playing in front of a Canadian audience.

San Jose would probably alleviate a lot of that pressure. Maybe he'd do better then.

As it stands he creates a good amount of offensive opportunity and playing more physical helps his defensive play.

Karlsson seems like a steep price to pay tbh. Makes more sense than another forward though.

  2. I'm a huge Jesse fan, even have his navy jersey. Have always loved the little things he does. Really thought his game was gonna take the next step last season, especially after he got off to a solid start, but it just isn't materializing. He's just a black hole offensively. I so badly want him to put it together, but I just don't see it happening. ☹

  3. I think JP contributes a lot in front of the net and behind the play. He works hard every shift. Wish him nothing but the best.

  4. As much as it would hurt for Jesse to leave Edmonton because he's such a hard working player that always tries his best, that just hasn't worked out as well as planned, this provides a good opportunity to trade for a defenceman. Wishing for the best wherever Jesse ends up. Hopefully he can become a star on his next team, if he is traded or decides to leave the NHL.

  5. Hurts to hear pulji say that. He is a fan favourite but it definitely seem like the right move to be traded. 🙁

  6. It's truly a shame that things didn't work out for Jesse here in Edmonton but we all must admit that they really have not worked out and it's time to move on; for everyone's sake.

Yes, there were mistakes made by both sides and many things should have been done differently but they weren't and here we are. There's little point in dwelling on that now.

I think it's time that Jesse moved on and that we as fans move on. There is a better than even chance that he goes somewhere else and that the move proves to be the motivator and kick start he needed and that he develops into a star but that's just the chance we have to take.

He is not and likely never will be, that star here and we have to accept that and wish him well in his future endeavors. It's just not meant to be here. If it was, it would've happened by now. It's a shame but I think everyone has given it more than enough time so it's better we all move on.

  7. Jesse needs to unleash the buffalo! He is lacking the passion or drive to take it to the next level. He was the only one in the playoffs last year that didn't look like he playing as if there was a gun to the head of there first born child. You see spurts of it, and you can see the beast inside. He needs to let his emotions take over sometimes, or get mad and learn to direct that energy into something on the ice. Not sure if he needs to have a kid, or maybe just a crazy girlfriend experience. Something to open his mind to that irrational love/hate energy.

  8. Never was a fan of Jesse, with all this negative press and his performance it will be hard to move him without losing a key player

  9. I always said pul sucks now I feel so so bad for him! Poor guy. Gz
I wonder how many shots on net he’s getting with the line up he plays with…

  10. JP tried but does not fit this team and it’s sad to see him beating himself up. A fresh start and a reality check on his past expectations will make a difference.
I have never seen the need for Karlsson in Edmonton. Need a mean defensive defenseman. Good luck with 4k.

  11. Spec’s tweet today is pretty classless.

    Responding to:

“Twenty games in and I have one goal. It’s sad.”

    Says: The Bye Son King?
A fresh start would serve him well.

Calling a spade a spade is one thing, this seems unnecessary. He’s relentless on JP. FMS

  12. Not everyone can play with McDavid and Draisitle. When he plays on the top line, he passes the puck or dumps the puck right away. He doesn't have the confidence to carry the puck while playing with McDavid and Draistile.

  13. I'm not giving up on him until he is traded. He's close and he nearly had it last year, so we'll see. Regardless I also wish him the best whether it's here or elsewhere since he does truly put the team ahead of himself and is always a positive guy with his teammates.

Also really nice to read something in the newspaper that's honest about how a player feels. I wish more players were as open, would make easier to have sympathy Anne would also be more interesting tbh.

  14. I like Jesse but only as a bottom 6 forward, he doesn’t have the chemistry with any of the big guns and seems to play better as a bottom 6 forward. At least JP is leading the team with hits.

  15. I love JP – but obviously he is having a hard time here. I really respect that he’s taken the effort to change his game. If he can’t be a top 6 player – maybe he can be an elite bottom 6. He would still be an incredibly valuable player if he took on the role of third and fourth line and owned them. But when it’s time to renew the contract – that means he can’t be getting a top 6 contract. Or we just move on. I wish him the best anyways and I really wish it worked out. But for now I’m happy to use him as a chip for getting a defenceman. But EK is at just about the bottom of the list for dman I want here.

  16. I really don’t think Karlson comes to Edmonton. If they can get a guy like chichren that would be better

  17. Karlsson isn’t a good fit and it would have to be Barrie not Ceci in your trade proposal Patrick, Barrie would be redundant as Karlsson would become the first unit PP quarterback
I agree JP needs a change of scenery but unless Holland’s wiling to trade him for 4th at best, JP change of scenery most likely involves him going back to Finland. My worry with JP is we see a similar outcome as Valeri Nichushkin, very similar paths both drafted high both failed in their first 2 yrs in NA went back oversees came back both struggled again, then Nichushkin goes the Aves and breaks out and the guy is a beast now.

  18. Can't realistically see how they can make a EK trade work with Edmonton

  19. At the age of 23 Valeri Nichushkin had 0 goals and 10 points in 65 games with Dallas. At 24 he had 13 goals and 27 points in 65 games. The next year he had only 10 goals and 21 points in 55 games.

Before his 24 year old season (last year), Tage Thompson had never surpassed 8 goals and 14 points. Then he blossomed.

IMO If he's willing to sign for an amount that is commensurate to his performance, then it's OK for the Oilers to keep Jesse. Colorado first signed Nichushkin at $850K/saeson, then $2.5M. After his entry level, Thompson signed for $1.4M/season, and is still on that contract until next season where it will go up to a still bargain $7.14M/season. With Jesse's current performance, if he wants to stay, he needs to sign for $1M or less.

  20. Your trade for Karlsson would not work for the Oilers in that they would still need some League minimum players as warm bodies to play where Shore and Puljujarvi are in the lineup, and would thus be over the cap. Also Lavoie's cap hit is only $870K if he's playing in the NHL, not in the AHL (he was recently healthy scratched in BAK btw).
There's no way to make a Karlsson trade work. A third team would be needed, and his contract is way too long!
Anyway, who would play on their wrong side Karlsson, Ceci, Barrie or Bouchard?
