Incredible display of athleticism from Hughes.

  2. dadphobia

Jack Hughes is a god damn superstar

  3. xxfatpigxx

Have to appreciate them keeping me tuned in until the end with all that pressure down the stretch. Two crossbars with the goalie pulled while down 2 feels like some Unseen Hand type of stuff. Guess when the Devils lose the hockey gods will make it happen no matter how obvious.

Some total doodoo moments in the 2nd sank them and it felt like they got pulled into playing the Islanders’ game that period.

Whatever, chill and get some Gato ahead of Tuesday and I’ll work on finding another totally legitimate source to watch the game since I don’t have NHL Network.

The 6v5 pressure was absurd. Uncharacteristic mistakes tonight lost the game, if they win against the Rags I’ll forgive them.

  5. richraid21

Don’t try to sugarcoat this loss.

We paid like shit and paid the price. A moonshot attempt to tie the game doesn’t take away from that fact.

  6. walked_past

It’s good that they didn’t give up. The team is growing.

  7. powatwain

Games like this are going to happen during the season, it’s inevitable

But how they reacted to it tells you all you need to know

  8. MetsguyinATL

It’s a good thing we have the whole weekend off. That was a complete energy burn off.

  9. ffffrrrruuuaaaaa

I love this team, no quit when they have an off night. Games will get tougher but no doubt we are not last year’s team

  10. chrishic99

Garbage, garbage game. Onto the next, take your frustrations out on the rangers. Make the msg our home away from home

  11. specifichero101

They kept fighting, but sloppy bullshit lost them the game. Perfect opportunity to show their stuff in a bounce back next game.

  12. Goaltending was bad tonight. Defense didn’t help

  13. Don’t let the loss distract you from the fact that the rookie goalie Hughes has 1.00 save percentage.

  14. DontDraftSmall

If Wood is out for a bit do they play Josnsson or call up somebody else?

  15. TallTalent

Sloppy first and second periods. They never gave up and that’s all I needed to see. I’ve witnessed so many losses, they don’t hurt as much anymore and these are games to learn from.

  16. ilovehenrique14

Dougie quietly with 21 points in 27 games. Maybe having a jaw wired shut affected him last year. Also the balls of Ruff to just say fuck it and pull the goalie and leave your superstar out there for 8 minutes. It didn’t get the end result but it came damn close and made things interesting

  17. FriedCammalleri23

We didn’t lay down and die even though it was 6-2 at one point. Not the most demoralizing loss. Remember, we’re 21-5-1.

    On to the next.

  18. ScrewOff_

actually fucking wild I’d take Jack Hughes and an empty net for 60 minutes over whatever last years offense was + goalie for 60 minutes.

that empty net effort was marvelous. Couldnt even score on an empty net for half a period, that’s wild

  19. njdevils901

Jack Hughes is out of this freaking world

  20. refyousuck

Was about to turn the game off and then they pull the goalie with over 7 minutes to go. Jack Hughes did all the Jack Hughes things. Kept me watching until the end.

  21. Desperate-Ad3999

I feel like the devils don’t play well when they’ve got extra days off

  22. IncreaseInVerbosity

We lost, happens. Showed great spirit and never gave up. Hopefully we can take it out on the Rangers.

  23. DevilJacket2000

Fuck the Islanders. We had to basically give away the game just for them to feel special about themselves. They’re old, slow, and never had a window open in the first place. This was a moment of charity.

  24. kyletres

We’ll that really sucked to lose against a rival and give them 2 points to catch us BUT :

The defense was very suspect early, and put them in a huge hole early. That pretty much set the tone early and had those bad bounces not happened the game would have been better.

Dumb penalties really hurt them. Gotta clean that up, but that’s as easy as some players (👀) maybe sitting next game to watch.

Happy to see them stand up against them being bullied against islanders. Mikey dropped the gloves and the game got chippy after. Sucks that wood got hurt, that’s going to be the worst thing to come out of this game

Jack is a certified superstar. Plays 8 minutes straight and wills the team to keep going and stay competitive. This guy fucks.

Great that they didn’t give up and kept going til the end. Hopefully they’ll clean up their game and come back better Monday.

  25. TheDopestTrip

Hmm, send Holtz down to Utica for a while, grab Rooney off waivers, and someone get Jack a goalie helmet.

  26. njdevils901

I’m still wondering what the hell Smith was thinking on that pinch in for the Cizikas goal.

  27. I will happily take the 7 minutes of empty net without a goal against us. Gives me a lot of confidence in our 6 on 5 abilities when we are down by 1 in a future game

  28. chickenKsadilla

One of the worst refereed games I’ve ever attended. Two BLATANT holding/interference three feet from the referees eyes that somehow went uncalled and several other arguable ones. Honestly extremely frustrated about it. Glad we showed some spirit again the end though; that was epic to see.

  29. Nanojack

My dude deserves a whole case of whatever gato flavor he wants

  30. Kornja81

Good show of heart at the end. They’ll learn from this. Their play isn’t sustainable and that’s okay, they’re still a playoff team imo. Holtz needs more development on the defensive side, Hughes needs to stop hurting the post and crossbars. Lastly, they need bigger bodies, especially in the corners, someone like a Tom Wilson (not him specifically, but a skilled power forward) or a Timo Meier. Defense was also stinky today 🤷‍♂️

  31. kyletres

I never watched the lindy coach interviews after the game until the whole “fire lindy” game. But he gives real honest answers and I kind of like that. Bet he’d be fun to have a beer with…

  32. zoom100000

It’s good that we’re shocked and confused about poor play. not the expectation this year. isles are a good team and played well. hope MW is okay!

  33. InstructionNo3616

This was another statement loss in my opinion. The wins are coming easy and they are making the losses difficult— no matter the position they’re in. If this is a playoff series, I’d hate to be the islanders in the next game.

  34. kyletres

Also to all the people say the doomers came out tonight, I think most these post game takes are very mild, and we’re all disappointed but optimistic. Good on us. Better than our trash trick

  35. robsul82

Well, shit. A loss and didn’t even get a bobblehead after getting a Lyft driver who somehow took an hour to get from Little Ferry to Newark. 😭 Oh well, didn’t give up and kept fighting to the end, all I can ask on a very off night.

  36. Luna0995

First game of the year glad I saw a strong comeback effort helped with the pain of getting rolled for two periods. Jack and Nico were lights out tonight and super fun to watch. Those crossbar hits broke my soul lol. But this place got LOUD after hughes made those two empty netter saves it just felt like we would will the game back but it was not to be.

Still incredibly fun team to watch and I’m glad it’s our team
