It’s worth remembering that there are far more Devils, Islanders, and Pens fans on that sub than Rangers fans. They control the narrative early on. In the case of Rangers controversy, those fan bases plus a chunk of the other Metro fan bases who define themselves by hating NY(R), plus the opposing team’s fan base and frequently Leafs fans, who are just happy to shit on someone else for once, all dive on the anti-Rangers narrative immediately.
It’s an interesting phenomenon with Trouba, specifically, because the night he lays a big hit r/hockey is beside itself over what a villain Trouba is. Real soft, pearl clutching bullshit. The following morning, however, when the fan bases level out, most people call Trouba’s hits what they are, big and legal.

I remember when news hit of Trouba getting the C, all the geniuses on Facebook were losing their minds about it. One person even went so far as to say how disgusted beyond belief he was in the Rangers organization. This was after the Rocky Wirtz shitshow when he embarrassed himself on TV about the scandal. But no dude thought Troubs getting captaincy was the more egregious offense.
