  1. Brodie, so I’ve asked this before, but the gap the city of Oakland and the A’s have is around 350mil. And MLB has stated that they would wave the relocation fee if the A’s moved. Why can’t the league bridge that gap with the relocation money? They want stability and for teams to stay in their home market. What say you?

  2. Brodie, I enjoyed hearing your perspective on the Coyotes situation and it was impressive the Gary Bettman showed-up for the meeting and expressed his interest in keeping the Coyotes in the desert for years to come. It would be so great for this issue to finally be resolved because like the Oakland A's, it has dragged on for several years now.

  3. The Yotes went thru bankruptcy and the NHL at one point were owners of this team. Reason why Gary Betman was at this meeting, he and the Board still hold a stake on this team and Gary Bettman and the NHL wouldblook like a bunch of idiots ofbthey were not able to secure funding for a franchise that isn't known to ever compete (exception 2010 – 2011). So to compare the Yotes and the A's is ridiculous. The A's sole issue is having that penny pincher of am owner.

  4. Oakland City Government is a failure. Stuck in analysis paralysis while not seeing the long term benefits that would be a huge money maker for them. Gotta spend money to make money.

  5. Difference is the NHL wants to be in Arizona while MLB wants out of Oakland. There never was a reason for a team in Oakland in the first place. Moving there was a mistake back in 1968. That market doesn't need two baseball teams. It was done originally because the AL wanted two teams in California, so while the NL had Los Angeles and San Francisco, the AL ended up with Oakland & Anaheim, LOL. The AL could get nothing right in those days. They are hopefully finally going to correct a long standing mistake and get that team out of Oakland.

  6. As a coyotes fan this is a step In the right direction. It’s a good market and most of the fans live around the area of Tempe so it should be packed most nights. I live in Arizona and go to Oakland A’s spring training games all the time and man they got some of the best fans in Baseball. I hope Howard Terminal works out for Oakland

  7. I know Brodie doesn't want to hear this, but he has to: The Oakland Athletics will still play in the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum when the Coyotes new arena in Tempe is open for business.

  8. This could be a bad deal for Tempe. There is an anticipated NHL lockout at the same time this arena opens. There is some talk that Coyotes will not survive.

  9. I like the coyotes, but I vote to move them to Quebec city… (and no I'm not from Quebec)

  10. In today's NHL, when VGK and Seattle are the models of expansion success, after nearly THIRTY yrs of trying, it is hard to imagine why the NHL would possibly want to continue to support the Coyotes – instead of trying another new market like say Houston.
IMHO the As are a completely different story with a long history of success and IMHO it would be a sad day if they end up moving away from Oakland or even the Bay Area completely. Good luck on getting that stadium deal done, hopefully in the East Bay. I remember when I lived on The Alameda, they were even considering building across from the Shark Tank.

  11. As someone originally from Atlanta, this pisses me off. The Coyotes should have been the team moved the Winnipeg. And the current Coyotes team should go to Houston

  12. The reason this is streamlined is because it is going you public vote. Let the people of Oakland choose.

  13. As a long time resident of Tempe, we have a lot of faith in our local leaders and frequently approve these kinds of measures. This city craves investment into transportation and infrastructure. We voted overwhelmingly to approve light rail expansions, a transit center, and very recently a new streetcar for downtown Tempe (that will likely expand to the arena). You have to remember that this isn't the first pro sports team to be here, and the city was ready to build the Cardinals a stadium

  14. The funds Tempe would pay are raised through a tax in the entertainment district itself, not the residents of Tempe as you imply. May want to look into that before you keep saying the people living in Tempe are paying for anything.

  15. Just want to say, that $230 million in infrastructure tax money is generated through sales tax on site. Don't want your taxes to go toward the remediation of the land? Don't shop, eat or attend games there. Really simple for the nay sayers

  16. I think Arizona is a fantastic hockey market and the fact that the college team (ASU) has finally made the NCAA and we're able to justify building their own arena really shows that.

It's also nice to have an out of towner following this story and actually trying to cover it accurately.

**Side note – Doaner and the owner were also at the first council meeting over the summer
