Dallas has proved it can't lure free agents. Its best bet is homegrown talent, then either ride it out with them, or deal them for the right fitting pieces. The Mavs put at least three chip-worthy squads together around Dirk, and luckily the last one hit. But Luka is perceived as better than Dirk ever was, and Luka hasn't taken as long to develop. I don't think the Mavs have as long as they had with Dirk. Their timeline seems like Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, LeBron level short-leash. Do or die time will be here soon enough. Somehow I think the Mavs will pull something off though.

Imagine having to play your very best every game with no room for a bad night or you won’t make the playoffs. Kidd I’d slowly using Wood now but it’s taken too long and they need him to help defend at the rim and I’m not sure he can do that. Wood can be his number two a but he needs to be able to play more minutes. If any of his team mates have an off night shooting the ball they are in trouble and are lucky to win. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up hurt because he’s playing too many minutes and has the ball in his hands all the time and that’s gonna wear him out.
