Rangers fan here: I think MacLean is right — it was poised to be a watershed moment for either club. Full credit to the Rangers on the win. However, the Leafs tend to get goalied by the Rangers as of late, by Igor AND Georgiev. I think it speaks more to a return-to-form for the Rangers than it does an indictment against the Leafs who played very well in their own right.
The leafs were not on their A game. They have to consistently be out for blood and they didn’t do that. Can’t look at this as a measuring stick because without consistency it doesn’t matter.
Well, when you realize that Toronto and NY are different divisions, wouldn’t Toronto have to actually get out of the first round to have this matchup?

After a 15-game point streak and a 4-game winning streak for the Leafs, this 3-1 loss to the Rangers is the measuring stick for the playoffs. We know about their playoff failures, but we're putting a lot of weight on a game where they lost in regulation for the first time since November 11th. And I know this title is for the clicks, but jesus christ!
Once a team secures a playoff spot – the regular seasons become tests for developing guys to move up the lineup if required, I am not really a fan of individual achievements unless they are done during the playoffs, and the other thing – is just the team learns to be mentally tough. Bad days & games happen. Even if the Leafs lose 3 in a row – them learning to manage adversity is important. Go Leafs go!
