  1. I gotta say that I really like that 84 game schedule idea in that it provides a win-win situation for everyone involved. On the business side of things, it would open the door for more revenue from the extra games while also promoting the divisional and conference rivalries that the NHL seems to want. At the same time it would give the fans a couple of extra games that matter (at least more than preseason). My only concern would be the added wear this would place upon the players, though when you consider that they're already doing it for 82+ games every year, another 2 doesn't really seem like that big of a deal.

  2. They have to move to an 84 game season. We have the ridiculous situation where Calgary only visits Edmonton once this season. That should never happen. They should've taken games away from the cross division teams if they want to stay at 82 not out of the division games. The way the playoffs are structured divisions games are too important. In division games should be perfectly balanced.

  3. Why do 84 when we can do 100? Just jam an extra 18 games in October and call it “Hell Month”.

  4. Fk it. Send Quinn H to the devils. I am far from a jersey fan but I'd love to see them boys get some cups on the same team. Love the American born boys

  5. Everyone knows vancouver needs a rebuild. We've known that for years. Nobody in the organization will admit it. They're not a hockey team they're a business.

  6. I'm all for the 84 game schedule. Shorten preseason. Start the regular season on October 1st. We're only talking an additional 2 games for every team. As long as the majority of players approve, I see no reason for not considering this.

  7. 84 games was inevitable once the league went to 32 teams. The league needs to balance the match-ups within divisions. This isn't like 20-30 years ago where one team plays one division rival 7 times and then plays another 8 times. Now, a team might play one division rival 3 times, and then play another rival 4 times.

One thing I also hope that's done with the 84 game season is that the match-ups between teams are better spread out through the season. Some divisional match-ups, like the Stars-Jets are already done for the season. The Battle of Alberta will be done before the new year and the Battle of NY will be done before Christmas.

  8. I would think Hughes should be untouchable as well, but who knows. If I'm the Devils, I'm calling about reuniting Quinn with his brothers in New Jersey.

  9. Please keep it at 82. Goal/points records get messed up with more games. The NFL is having this problem with their extra game

  10. Is there a site where you can see what percentage of NHL revenues come from ticket sales and concessions? I'd guess it's much higher than the other major sports.

  11. 84 games is tied to shortening the pre-season. The team I watch uses most of pre-season to evaluate marginal players and prospects and only plays a veteran line-up in the last game or two of pre-season. I assume it's the same for everyone.
So they could do some things to shorten the pre-season without shortening the pre-season. Maybe limit the number of times a given player can play. Maybe count split-squad games as one game (since it's only one for any given player). Reduce the requirement for the "veteran rule".

  12. Horvat, Hughes, pettersson are my personal untouchables for the Canucks

  13. Can't remember what I'm paraphrasing:
    NHL: Are you unhappy?
    'A' fans: Yep!
    NHL: Are you unhappy?
    'B' fans: You betcha!
    NHL: Then we're good.

If you can't make everyone happy then the next best thing is no one gets to be happy.

  14. Pettersson, Hughes, and Demko are the untouchables for the Canucks imo. I would even put Podkolzin up there too.

  15. All for the 84 games. Balanced and fair. Shortening preseason and makes sense for the reasons you outlined. A no-brainer for ownership and the players. Regarding the Canucks, I'm surprised at Hughes being available for the right price.

  16. They said they wanted more rivalry type games… let's upset some people maybe.
    Div
    4×5 20
    Div rival (2)
    6×2 12
    Conference
    2×7 14
    Conf rival (1)
    6×1 6
    Other conf
    2×16 32

  17. So New Jersey offers every non roster asset they can for Hughes right?

  18. The Canucks being willing to trade away the best defenseman in franchise history who isn't even 24 yet speaks volumes about this management.

  19. I think the 84 game schedule is a great idea. Also, I remember when the league started earlier in October than they do now. I could have never understood why they decided to start later in the month.

  20. Just got back to normal and now we have to make changes already to the schedule . Leave it as is .

  21. Is JT Miller trade protected by his new contract extension, or can the Canucks move him anywhere this year?

  22. Seems
the Canucks may become a development team for the USA. Watch. Sad.

  23. I think you will 100% see more neutral site games with an 84 game schedule. Expect to see regular season games in Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden and Denmark in the next few years.

  24. I am totes on board with an 84 game schedule because it'll make the season slightly longer and that's okay with me.

  25. For the Canucks, it feels like the same atmosphere when they wanted Green to get fired. They’re playing like they want change. But they already got change.

  26. Noticed the Flyers and Maple Leafs game on Thursday start time is 2pm. Kinda odd to see a day game being played during the week.

  27. I think I’ve figured out where the pro digital ads survey came from. There’s a few marketing firms that I get emails from. You get a $20 gift card for watching a video and answering a bunch of questions about it. Most of them are about noticing commercials, how obnoxious they are with this example of a streaming service, etc. They don’t give yes/no questions but 5-10 point scales on how much you liked/noticed/or felt about a product. A lot of it is honor system on if you actually pay attention to the video, though some are just starting to add a web cam component.

I’m willing to bet that they’re saying something like on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being love it, 1 being dislike it, the regular ads averaged something like 1.3, digital ones 1.5, therefore fans prefer the digital ads. It’s making the stats scream in agony, but it’s not technically wrong. It’s also very likely they weren’t actually getting fans of the NHL, just people on a particular mailing list who were happy to say they were hockey fans so they had a chance at a gift card.

  28. Unfortunately Vancouver was wrong, OEL is the only untouchable. Pettersson's contract of 7.35m ends in 23-24 when he becomes a RFA with Arb, on the other hand, Hughes already locked up until 26-27, and neither have clauses. The only ones with clauses are: NMCs OEL (vcr needs his permission slip); Mod NTC Myers, Mikheyev, Pearson and Ferland; Miller's NMC doesn't start till next year, so… if teams want to risk a NMC.

  29. Canucks management is so clueless. Might be the worst management group in the NHL. They just seem so confused and have zero idea in what direction they want to go.

  30. If he’s untouchable why then did Vancouver trade him to me in NHL 22 franchise mode

  31. With the regards to the schedule, they need to make back to backs for home games only. For every team.
