Allvin is starting to concern me deeply… could it be possible this guy is in way over his head and doesn’t have a solid, credible game plan for the team going forward?
The only explanation might be that Francesco actually DOES still make the major decisions and for some mysterious reason he is perfectly happy with a couple of playoff home dates, and is even ok with the fact that they rarely make the playoffs and he will not see ANY playoff revenue most years.
It’s a fucking head scratcher seriously.
He seems like a Rutherford puppet more than anything else at this point in time.
He’s made 3 of the 5 trades in NHL this season, It’s his peers around the league that seem content to stay with their rosters. Allvin is working hard to fix his.
He’s just trying to not lock himself into a narrative. He’s also trying to not show his cards to the other GMs. If he is too clear on his plans, other GMs will have him over a barrel.
As for the fans screaming ‘rebuild’, Avs and Pens are outliers. Most rebuilds look like Buffalo, Arizona or early 2010s Oilers. You get a couple good players, but don’t have enough built around him and he’s in a losing environment and wants out. So wash-rinse-repeat, you are in another 3 year rebuild. It’s easy to *enter* a rebuild; the tricky part is *exiting* the rebuild. I don’t think that this is legitimate way to build a franchise, because you are taking on players with no NHL history and projecting forward a few years. Unless your amateur scouting is absolutely amazing, you won’t draft a complete team.
Patrick says he’s building here, so it’s a retool. Most GMs retool at one point or another, because it’s the lowest risk move. If we want to retain EP, QH etc, we don’t do that by trading anyone who is above AHL level and letting them get caved in on possession metrics.
I maybe in the minority, but even though I haven’t been thrilled at all with whats transpired with things like the JT Miller signing (instead of a trade) and the moving out of picks — I still want to give this management until the end of the year before I go all « Benning 2.0 » on them. They have done *some* positives.
