1 goal on 4.24 xG for us and 4 goals on 3.07 xG for them. Goaltending was the deciding factor again. It hasn’t been good enough during this streak.
Mercer was easily the best skater tonight. Smith, aside from that penalty looked good on the PK. We were abysmal otherwise. Where’s allmy “Holtz is playing fine” ppl at – he’s just not good at all.

I sat at eye level on the goal line and watched Vanecek be literally the shittiest Goalie in the NHL. Totally exposed. Shoot it over his glove hand shoulder and he can’t save it. Also this TEAM is so awful I now feel the win streak was a fluke. Bratt doesn’t deserve more than Hughes so bye to him. Sevo is toast and 75% of our wingers wouldn’t be on anyone’s starting roster right now. If Holtz and a 1st can get us Meier than fucking launch him to the west coast in a howitzer
For the love of fucking god, take Haula off of Jack Hughes line, and put Mercer there instead. Two bad penalties, several missed shots, it’s enough already. He is not a top 6 guy, it’s so insanely obvious to see

The only thing almost as bad as the team losing is having to deal with fans of my own team who get off on the team being bad because they think it somehow proves them right about something. Just fucking let me be miserable the team lost, I’m not interested in “I told you this team was bad” garbage. Why is that even the hill you want to die on? Do you even enjoy this at all? Anemic scoring and shoddy goaltending/defense is alarming for sure. I wasn’t expecting this team to win the division, but even a WC spot in the playoffs almost assuredly ends in a quick first round exit if we’re playing like this.
I think Palat coming back and hopefully sending Holtz and Smith down gets them back in it. We shall see. With how our D played tonight I wouldn’t even mind seeing them go 11 forwards 7 D for the next two games. Not confident about tomorrows game and even worse against the Bruins.
Look, one of two things is going to happen.
Either the Devils get their shit together and right the ship (which btw they’re completely capable of doing), or they don’t, and we get wholesale change as a result.

Trying to prevent a six-game losing streak, the one thing the Devils absolutely could not allow to happen was a goal against in the first minute. Doesn’t matter if the deficit was just one. This is in their heads.
