I hate the "why does nobody cover ovechkin" thing every time I hear it. Espeically on power play goals. They dont commit to fully covering him because if you peel someone off to shadow purely OVI you're gonna just gonna be leaving oshie/backstrom"kuznetsov unattended in front of the net with an even greater chance to score then ovi gets from the right circle. The best you can do is keep your normal coverage to limit shooting lanes and hope your goalie tracks it. People act like he scores everytime he shoots it from the circle. He doesnt. His shots get stopped the overwhelmingly vast majority of times. He is unbelieveably good at getting tons of shots on net from the slightest openings and when you shoot that much they're gonna go in eventually. Probably the best ever at it. He just lives rent free in everyones head so anytime he does score from there it feels like he's scoring at will with a super accurately targeted laser beam of a shot when In reality he's just ripping it anywhere on net and betting on the goalie being to laterally slow to get there in time. His ability to live rent free in the other teams head at all times on its own is the calling card of an elite of the elite player.
