He probably deserves an extension, but I don’t think it would be wise for us to do it. We’re going to be tight on cap space again next year and there will be cheaper options to replace him.

Need is a very heavy term. We have priorities to sign over vesey plus we have a bunch of kids in the pipeline that are gonna be nhl ready soon and will be cheaper.
Also lets hold off to see how the rest of the season goes because over the past 2 weeks, the Vesey-mania has calmed down a bit.
Vesey has played like his career is depending on it, and thats because it is. If we didnt sign him, there didnt seem to be other options for him. So the fact that we are playing a guy that was almost out of the league as much as we are is insane.
He has earned a contract somewhere but we can not/should not do it, we cant afford it

Guys like Vesey are a dime a dozen. Should the Rangers keep him for a more expensive cap hit or give a spot to Cuyle? Easy call with our cap situation

If he’s willing to sign for under $1M, then we should get him on that deal ASAP. Is he a top 6/9 player? No, but he’s still been fantastic defensively, hasn’t been a black hole on offense, and can always be buried at that cap hit if he really falls off. He’s pretty much been what Goodrow was advertised as, at a price point that really makes him valuable in your lineup.
He’d likely be competing with Goat and Cuylle for a 4th line winger role next year, and we could do MUCH worse than him as a 11/12/13th forward. If he’s looking for $1.5M+ money though, he becomes a luxury we can’t afford.

Vesey has played well, but he’s a year to year player for me, if someone else wants to give him multiple years, you let him walk.
