  1. jones' issues are directly in line with the shrinking of goalie pads. it seems his style and play were really impacted by that, as were a small handful of other goalies around the league. he didnt get worse necessarily, he just couldn't adapt

  2. I’m gonna miss Jonesy so much. I have so many memory of watchin him and the Sharks play. I pray he gets to go to another great team and meet more amazing players. Good luck Jonesy, love ya so much❤️

  3. I believe Jones will bounce back somewhere else. We've seen it with goalies such as Greiss, Stalock (though now struggling), and Reimer. I truly believe if Jones had a solid 5 in front of him he will give you a deep playoff run. Going to be difficult convincing a veteran goalie to compete against Hill when you have one of the worst defenses in the league in front of you. Good luck, Joner, can't wait to see Sharks fans furious about your bounce back.

  4. I’m really gonna miss him. He led us to a Stanley Cup Final and I’ll never forget that. It sucks that his consistency hasn’t been great and that we gotta let him go, but it is what it is. Best of luck to him wherever he goes, I’ll always support him from a distance

  5. It's too bad what has happened to Jones in the last 3 seasons. It was the right call by Sharks FO, but I hope Jones sees this as a golden opportunity to start fresh.

As for who will replace Jones, my hunch is that we'll be after Ullmark or Andersen. Who do you think could serve as the tandem partner for Hill though Brodie?

  6. It's easy to blame the goaltender for all the team's losses because they're the last guy the puck gets past before hitting the back of the net. But the team hasn't been playing particularly well in front of him, and never mind consistently well, for a couple of seasons now. My friend that brought me into hockey and got me watching and playing is a career defenseman. Watching the last couple of seasons with him and seeing him consistently cringe and groan at some of the defensive plays. His most frequent comment regarding goals against on Jones was "He never had a chance." or "He got hung out to dry." Hopefully the change in net will wake the team up. Good luck, Jones.

  7. I'm a Kings fan and Jones played really well in LA and was really well liked. I was bummed when he left but got his ring playing behind Quick and he didn't have anywhere else to go. Hope he lands on his feet and gets a fresh start somewhere without the huge expectations.

  8. Jones was a Sharks legend and Staples Center destroyer. That said, there are literally hundreds of goalies that all provide the same stuff. Bottom line, our high salary defense has been TRASH. Karlsson is so fucking bad.

  9. The defense didn't help in this last season but Jones seemed just way to inconsistent to many easy goals in

  10. Nice stuff dude I walked right past u wen I was working for the San Jose conservation core in 2010 we did the recycling for the sap after the sharks games I’m pretty sure u we’re leaving for the night

  11. Jones was always the scapegoat for a defense that had a history of throwing him under the bus with poor, undisciplined play.

Q: What is the best way for a Shark to be a Stanley Cup Champion?
A: Get traded to any other team.

  12. I just think he wasn't that elite player they thought they needed. he benefited from a strong offense so he didn't need to do that much work and those season he couldn't make the important saves. He just couldn't carry the team to the promise land.

  13. I'll say it once and I'll say it again: Goalies are a product of the defense in front of them. Can't pin it all on Joner. He's been hung out to dry the last few years and he's done the best as he could.

  14. Martin Jones started to struggle immediately after the NHL called for Goalies to wear uniformly slimmer pants, as well as Chest/Arm protectors being more anatomically proportional in 2018/19. I do not think that is a coincidence. Especially since Martin Jones was an excellent positional goaltender, and that relies on every inch. It covered up his deficiencies specifically up high, it seems like Jones's weaknesses were exposed by goal scorers, and it's also affected him Mentally and made him change his approach to his game which going into your 30's is not something easy to do. We were able to outscore our problems that year, so the complaints were rare. That team in 2018/19 was THE TEAM to finally win it all. Absolutely loaded. Still couldn't get it done. Then came 2019/20…Luckily Covid killed that season early, and put an end to our miserable effort. Bottom 3 finish was very shocking. Can't chalk up blame to Covid during that one. We lost leadership in Pavs. Couture is a fantastic player. But not captain material IMO. He doesn't have the demeanor for it. I see him at Whole Foods in Campbell,CA often, and he speaks so quietly you cannot hear what he is saying. It's just not a good fit for him.

Anyways the 2020/21 season absolutely can be blamed on Covid. I personally called the season a wash. Should have just been named the Covid Cup. No Fans, too much restriction. Too many different disadvantages with schedules. I'm glad this team was awful for these two awful seasons. I believe a lot of players struggled being thrown off routines, and nothing quite being normal in any part of their life. East Coast barely had Travel while San Jose couldn't even play in San Jose the first month of the season. Canada with the most travel. It was whack. But three straight seasons at .896 GAA is inexcusable for a well-paid Goalie. Who had three fantastic years! But only these last two years was the Defense that bad. That 2018/19 year he still struggled in front of good team defense. I loved Jones and wanted to see him do well. But three straight years of being quite literally one of the worst goaltenders in almost every category measurable is not something most can survive. I'm shocked that he went to an NHL team. Especially the Flyers considering they are infamous for having shotty goaltending for what seems like decades. But I do not think he's a "fresh start" or "different system" away from changing his game around. I think it's too late. 1, or 2 crappy seasons maybe…but three BAD seasons? I don't think so.

The craziest thing about Jones would be when you go "WOW how the hell did he stop that!?" Then proceed to let a wrist shot from the Blueline go high glove with no screen. That is deflating to every single player, and fan watching that.

Let's pray Adin Hill is decent because I am not exactly excited after seeing him play. He doesn't look technically sound and seems kind of floppy to my eye test. I think he's a case of "well he's tall and takes up a lot of space" Not thrilled on Reimer as he posted just meh numbers on an excellent defensive team in Carolina, as well as him being in his mid 30's. But it's only 2 years, and hopefully, Hill can be better. We just ask for Avererage Goaltending!

  15. The team as a whole screwed Jones over. Jones took the fall for really bad team defense. It used to be the Sharks could outscore their defensive woes.
