It’s obviously the right call, but doesn’t zegras have to play the puck first with that stick before the ref can call the illegal stick penalty on him?

It is clearly written with in the rules that you can’t use your opponents stick. Don’t believe me? Look up kuznetsov using the opponents stick. He got penalized for that too and he knew it was the right call.
Well that situation was a total accident but this one was clearly intentional

Seeing this I think back to 4 years ago when the Capitals faced the Golden Knights and Evgeny Kuznetsov stole a stick but the stick was stuck in the glass and the refs threw him in the box for it.
Zegras was 100% justified, the guy slashed his stick out of his hands with no penalty. 100 take his stick away. Fuck that guy. Réf needs to give his head a shake
