My buddy is a detroit fan and he is totally sold on the "Yzerplan". I try to explain the numbers but it falls on deaf ears….drives me nuts haha
I was so sick and tired of everybody gushing over both Ottawa AND Detroit over their offseason moves, all the while criticizing Adams for standing pat outside of the minor moves he made. Yet here we are, ahead of both teams and playing some of the best hockey in the entire league over the last month or so. Fun little tidbit below:
Best records in the league over the last 10 games:
1. BOS 7-0-3
2. BUF 8-2-0
3. WAS 7-1-2
4. MIN 7-2-1.
BUF just went 3-0-0 against those teams in the last week 😎
I thought yzerman was a genius for Tampa Bay. For Detroit, I thought his two goalie trades were great, other than that, nothing too special on my opinion.

Yzerman gets good press because… A. Been at it longer.. B. made the fans happy by spending.. (Ottawa did this year as well).. C. Buffalo is still flying below the radar.. but that won't last much longer. Even "The Hockey Guy" is becoming a fan. If we keep up playing as we have since the 8 game slide… I expect well be in the playoffs or very close at the least. I expect that if Buffalo finishes higher than both Detroit and Ottawa and suddenly both those GM's will go from genius's to idiots really fast. Welcome to pro sports
Not only did Adams come in with a record setting losing Sabres team, he also had to deal with a coach that (imo) was the worst head coach in professional hockey. After trading away all their top scorers (aside from Olofsson) its goes to show how he turned around a team that went from near top of the salary cap to bottom in the league cap and still put a competitive team together…all the while why looking for a head coach AND a completely retooled scouting team. He had so much on his plate and was a rookie GM. I guarantee he never had pressure as a player as he did when he accepted that position. Glad you made that video Wayne

Yzerman has the glow of an exceptional career and then the decent work he did in Tampa while Detroit collapsed under the Holland administration. He's undoubtedly a decent GM but he's riding his reputation here. Remember Gretzky as Coyotes coach? (I do.) Ouch. Or perhaps Glen Sather as Rangers GM proving that whilst you can spend like a sailor on shore leave you just end up poorer in the end. I'm pretty sure Adam's learnt during his years in the minors how to get the genie from the lamp. 😋
Wow didn't realize how comparable Detroit's rebuild is to the sabres by the numbers. They're a much larger franchise so I've heard so much about them but when it comes to bass tacks the sabres look like they're in a much better position!

Dont be surprised if Detroit buys out the rest of Vranas contract in the next week or two as hes a cancer in the dressing room. He will need to do this or a similar move to free up a roster spot with Tyler Bertuzzi coming back from IR .
