Doubt Couture is going anywhere. Would love to be wrong.

We gotta be a lot more careful with replacing “rumors” or “speculation” with “news”.

Trade news is when something meaningful happens like a trade is actually made or at least that a team is speaking to Meier’s agent.

This is just a reporter talking to league sources about trade value, it’s nothing concrete

Couture is interesting. He’s overpaid and getting older, but he’s arguably one of the few players in the league who’s an absolute, proven playoff performer. Like, Dom from the Athletic put out a piece a few years ago questioning the overall idea of « clutch » players but singling out Couture as the one player who proves that some guys just do raise their game.

That, along with his two-way game and leadership qualities, means there will always be a market for him. Just too rare a player.

He’d be a great 2C on a contending team looking for someone to push them over the edge, complementing their elite players.

I feel really bad for couture. We give him shit line mates for 3 consecutive years, then have the gall to say « he’s over paid » and that « he fell off ». If I were him I would have demanded a trade when he had Dahlen and Balcers, both players who currently can’t crack any NHL line up, on his line

We would have to retain half most likely to trade Couture but it’s doable. I think the return would be unimpressive ala the Burns trade. But we could possibly get a late 1st + B prospect. But yeah, he’s a plug and play 2nd line wing or a high end 3rd line center (contenders likely already have a 2nd line center). It would be great to see him get another shot at a cup as he’s such a warrior.

If we trade meier, then trade everyone else as well

I don’t see him getting dealt. He hasn’t had a great season although admittedly hasn’t had great line mates. 8 million a year is a lot and I don’t see sharks retaining more than 2.5 given the term left. Not to mention aside from low 1st rnd pick and maybe a mid tier prospect not sure Sharks return would be as huge as this one blogger suggests

Rangers can offer that for Timo although it’s too much.

Remember when they decided to not keep Pav… how’d that workout?

I know I’m gunna catch heat on this one, however, I’m 1000% in on dumping Logan. Dudes never been captain material.

That team will never be Stanley Cup contenders if they keep trading away all your GOOD players. Cuz your season isn’t going well. for fucks sake man.

What will the Jets give ?

  13. AnomieMoz

That Sheng article was speculation about what Couture could be traded for, not an insider report.

    Isn’t this 4 pieces?

  15. nyintensity

Buffalo fan here – drooling over Meier.

I would be incredibly excited for our future if Couture, Meier, and EK65 are all traded for picks and prospects. I obviously love all 3 guys, but the Sharks are not a « Win Now » team, and trading these guys for the future would be huge, especially if we could have 3 or more 1st round picks in this year’s deep draft!
