As a first generation Czech, I recognize the passion. The Czechs and other Eastern Europeans of a certain age see the Ukraine as the beginning of something bigger. If you take Putin at his word, it is.
Nevertheless, I think going after Ovi or especially Ovi’s kid is out of bounds. I would like to see politics generally left outside of the arena. Let’s get back to playing the dang sport.

I’ll get downvoted, but try to put that square peg in the circle. Fact: 9/11 was committed by Saudi citizens. US invades Iraq for ‘weapons of mass destruction’ and terrorism that was never substantiated to deserve an invasion. And Halliburton (a company the Vice President has financial stakes) gets no bid contracts.
For what it’s worth, Sergei is an American citizen.

Politics are only meant to divide. And people like Hasek falling hook line and sink are only contributing to more and more division
I know that this guy has been very vocal like this for a while, and I think it goes without saying that what he said about Sergei is absurd to put it nicely, but I really just don’t understand this take in general. So we should ban all Russians, everywhere, and then what? What does that do?
Also, as another commenter put it, this is just a stupid untenable argument to be made in the long run. At least in reference to international sports. No country is without sin, so when do we stop banning players? When we find a country that hasn’t committed some kind of war crime or genocide? Good luck. The US and Canada are out also then.
Is he going to go after American athletes who supported Trump? After all, you can criticize him without worrying that his goons are going to come after your family.
Ovi is in a tough position. His parents and siblings are in Russia. He’d like for them to stay alive. He has to keep his mouth shut. Ovi also had zero to do with Putin invading Ukraine. And for Hasek to go after a four-year-old child is even lower.

Hasek has been saying similar stuff since the war started. He wanted to total ban of Russian players from all leagues outside of Russia.
He’s always been a bit kooky. But he’s allowed to have his opinions, and the press gets eyeballs out of it so they likely encourage it.
