I wouldn’t say Varly is *definitely* gone. Likely, yes, but he might take a pay cut to stay in a good situation if the team has a positive ending. He has a good relationship with Sorokin.
Unlikely, yes, but not impossible.

If losing Varly means we could give someone like Tarasenko a deal in the off-season I’m for it. If Lou let’s him walk and doesn’t use the cap space to upgrade our offense, I’m not for it

For years we wanted a big, crease-clearing defenseman who could shoot and skate, and now we have one—sort of. Mayfield takes a lot of dumb penalties, but he is good and has a lot of potential still-why do people seem so eager to let him go?
