I can honestly say, that I haven’t watched many Highlights from Jackets games, but why are they at the bottom of the Eastern Conference?

I thought for sure after getting Johnny Hockey and having done pretty good in the draft, they could at least make a Wildcard Push.

Don’t they have good D-Men and a decent Starting Goaltender? Is it coaching, depth, injuries, lack of motivation or all of the above.

  2. EmoLeBron

The short answer is injuries and a head coach who doesn’t know how to lead an NHL locker room.

I could rant about this till I’m Union Blue in the face but I have to get dinner ready for my family.

Injuries 100%. Gaudreau can only carry them so far.

Questionable defense got way worse with injuries, more injuries, disappointing goaltending, lack of coaching.

Defense depth is young but promising in next couple years. There is some hope, but we have been saying that for a while.

Injuries. Really thin at defense. Putting too much on the goaltenders and they can’t hold. The team is really young outside of the few major pieces. Our joke is they’re the “Columbus Monsters” because they’re half Monsters players.

  6. TwoScreenDoors

Easiest answer is because they’re the Columbus Blue Jackets

  7. Teams in Ohio just won’t learn that getting “Johnny (insert sport)” isn’t going to go well.

  8. binghamtons1998

They’re scoring less goals than their opponents

The injuries they’ve dealt with are pretty big players for them and from what I’ve seen either their defense or goaltending need to do better.

    Gudbranson.

I’m a Canucks fan, whenever he’s on the ice, you’re playing handicapped.

Edit: whoever to whenever. Who am I, Drax?

Torts had them in the second round precovid. They also had the following on the roster: Panarin, Dubois, Josh Anderson, Seth Jones, Bjorkstrand, Ryan Murray, Matt Duchene, and Bobrovsky – who are now all gone.

I can sum it up in a look. Last night’s game, 3rd goal the look on Korpisalo’s face says it all. The D collapsed and the coach had no answers.

I’m not sure they were ever going to be a GOOD team, but the injury bug has absolutely walloped this team- they got hit the way we thought Boston was going to be early on, where it was going to just be ‘survive until some of these guys get healthy’. Instead it’s Columbus looking at their roster now and saying ‘well… who still plays here?’

That said, all the pre-season Gaudreau hype aside, this was a team that was always on the outside looking in- maybe not THIS bad, but more of a work-in-progress than a real playoff threat. How much of this disaster is the injuries and how much is a bad team that isn’t coming along well at all is hard to say- certainly Mzerkins (I know I’m mangling his name) has been almost astonishingly bad, Gaudreau hasn’t really been the guy he was in Calgary (then again, what supporting cast?)… I don’t know, it’s a bitch to judge a team by a season like this, but it looks like the yet-again rebuild isn’t going the direction the team really was needing it to go at this point. Some good draft picks this summer would sure help a lot- here’s hoping they get what they need, and next year sees the training room a little less busy.

Combination of young team, questionable coaching, but most of all the injuries. You’d be forgiven for thinking this was an AHL team even with Johnny Hockey and Laine.

  15. Caviar_Fertilizer69

Bad coaching, bad strength & conditioning (an historical problem), injuries as a result of said S&C, young/developing defense, disappointing goaltending, and overall youth and development.

  16. JustSixTrees

Injuries to their good players, aside from Gaudreau, are a huge reason. Suspect goaltending, lackluster roster, there’s a bunch of reasons

  17. Groundbreaking_Bag35

    Suck for bedard!!!!!!!

  18. BobbyAxelrod1

they are currently beating the Leafs 3 to 2 in second…. (Leafs are masters of the choke!)

  19. ScoPham

Bedard, no wereski, no real coach, no voracek, wet paper defense

  20. crustyskinsfan

Well most likely bc they haven’t been able to score as many goals as the teams they’ve played

  21. DoubleDumpsterFire

Bad coaching. Very bad injuries. Young players making young player mistakes. Going for NHL record for giveaways.

I hate blaming coaching but I honestly can’t figure out what they’re even trying to do half the time.

  22. Days_of_Static

Big injuries to key players, questionable head coach, least cumulative NHL experience on the squad, and a defense that is probably the least talented in the NHL paired with a starting goalie that doesn’t is average on his best nights.

So what do we do? Probably have to suck for Bedard in the immediate future, then pick up some veteran talent in the offseason to bolster the roster with some confident guys that know how to win night in and night out.
