Might be a slight overpay but he’s giving this roster a good chance to contend for the next 3-5 years.
Love Bo here in British Columbia, Isles fans will too. Is 8.5M too much? This isn't a slam-dunk "no" answer. Bo has steadily improved EVERY year as a pro and it is reasonable to expect he may continue to do so. In playoffs he has the ability to notch it up a gear or two. He is somewhat of an iron-man in terms of durability. He is just the type to defy the aging/performance drop off.
I wish the Canucks had chose Horvat over Miller, but that said, I am happy for Bo. From a player's POV, there is a big difference between 8.5M USD and 7.5M CDN (not to mention exorbitant BC taxes). And I speculate he doesn't mind leaving the Canucks dumpster fire for a team and city that looks rosy.
Given where the market is (out of control), that’s market value for Bo. He’s that good. It’s not a discount whatsoever, but it’s also not an overpayment. Who would Islander fans rather have? Miller at $8 or Bo at 8.5? I’m a Canucks fan and Long Island got the better deal. Bo will still be effective once he’s not putting up points. When Miller isn’t scoring, he’s worse than useless and he’s also full of it, too.
