Fuck yeah. Justin Holl’s best moments in no way, shape or form make up for his gaffes at his worst.

I am willing to see Holl play games 1-6. Not game 7.

In my opinion, I’ve been very impressed with how Justin Holl has dealt with all of the bs surrounding his play. He’s played in a top four D role when really he should be a bottom pair guy. Despite being played in a role that he isn’t suited for, and despite people constantly talking shit about him, he’s put his head down and done a decent job. If Holl was as bad as everyone says he is, the Leafs would not sit so comfortably in a playoff spot.

I’m not gonna shit on Holl or any other Leafs player to be honest. I’ll cheer for every guy that puts that sweater on regardless. I think Timmins needs to play because he will be needed down the road because of injuries or trades. They all need to play.

At his best, Holl is adequate. At his worst, he’s unplayable. I believe that’s the Dangle quote and he’s right.

People defend Holl when he plays “well” but it’s a mirage. When he plays adequate compared to his bad games…adequate looks elite.

He cannot be anything more than a 7/6 D on this team if we have any intention on taking a serious run

His biggest problem is situational awareness. He doesn’t see what’s going on away from the puck. He chases when his d partner has it covered leaving his side open, he doesn’t hustle for a loose puck in the corner usually leading to a battle or missed clearing attempt when it shouldn’t have been that close. He doesn’t see the guys coming that aren’t directly involved in the play.

I’ve noticed it all year. He just doesn’t see the ice well. He doesn’t have the head on swivel mentality that you really need to have on defence.

We have too much defensive depth to not ride whoever’s « hot ».

Holl has been adequate but his last game wasn’t just bad, it lacked effort.

Timmins has earned a look until he’s not playing at the same level he’s capable of. If / when that happens, Holl should come back in because he’s demonstrated he’s also capable.

You have depth, use it to keep pressure on the players and keep them sharp.

Honestly, I’ve shat on Holl’s play at times. Probably unfairly as well. He’s a totally serviceable 3rd pair Dman who is surprisingly good at killing penalties. I’ve come to accept that there’s a place for Holl on this team. I just wish the staff would limit what they ask of him. Hopefully Timmins can grab the opportunity and run with it. Small sample size caveat for sure, but he’s looked really good as a Leaf.

  9. The problem with Holl is that his best skill sets are things that don’t really translate to heavy minutes. He does a good job on the PK but his decisions with the puck are questionable. I honestly think he would play the exact same way if you took away his stick

  10. Holl’s RNG receiving the puck gives me X-Com flashbacks. The 5% feels like it happens all the time and the consequences are brutal.

im terrified about how the pk is going to look without him

They just want an opportunity to get Timmins back in more than anything. I don’t think Holl would be scratched if not for us wanting to give Timmins a start.

Forget Meier I would be happy Holl never saw the ice again for rest of the year … addition by subtraction

  14. Allyougame

Keep Timmins in and keep Holl out.
