It's only 2 years, 3 million isn't much of a hit, and he's a fine bottom/mid pairing defensemen. Yzerman has a lot of big contracts to sort out in the next couple seasons, so I'm fine with this.
That right good contract not much he also can help the younger guys on defence
This certainly puts trade rumors to bed for this season at least. I'm happy with this, good term and AAV which, after the season he's had so far that's really good value IMHO. Not sure what this does for the LD prospect logjam though…..
Now resign walman
Can we just admit Yzerman has been kinda bad in Detroit? Jesper’s clearly better than Cossa, the copp and Chiarot deals were horrible and everything else has kinda just been mid?
Stevve Fuk him il take Adams
No problem with this extension. Now if only we can rid the Chiarot and Copp contracts: those are gonna be a big problem.
Every Red Wings fan will have ZERO issues with this. He has been amazing
I am wondering what the future means. With Edvinsson making the team next year, only got some many open spots. I do think Stevie wants to sign Walman and I don't see any team willing to take Chiarot's contract. Does this mean Chiarot's going to be traded? Does this mean Walman isn't going to be re-signed. Is Edvinsson going to spend a second year in Grand Rapids? I have so many questions for what are defense is going to look like nest season.
This contract extension also makes Maatta a pretty good trade piece.
I mean Filip Hronek has played his best hockey with Matta, so why stop a good thing right
Matta was the 3rd most important fa, walman is the 2nd biggest fa the wings have, Edison will be full time next year. The extra year as prime guy with griffins will be op. redwings defense will be lights out the last year of matta deal
Mock trade for your disliking:
To DET: 2023 1st rd
Matthew Knies
John Tavares
To TOR: Dylan Larkin
Olli Maatta
Tankathon draft simulation results for DET:
3rd overall: Leo Carlsson or Michkov
26th overall: Gavin Brindley (TOR)
way too much
another over paid bum signed by yzerman lol
He will definitely raise a cup here!
As a Wings fan, I have zero problems with this
What is holding up the RW's development is that Yzerman couldn't poach Al Murray from the Lightning. He MADE Yzerman look good, from a "scouting/drafting" angle. Yzerman was the "trade" guy. Yzerman TRIED to get Murray…and the Bolts stopped it. Yzerman will get it done eventually…but it'll take longer because of (A) The division they play in and (B) The Red Wings "juniors" are not good. They don't have an ENTIRE line to bring up (like the Lightning did with Palat, Kucherov and Johnson).
Better we resign Maatta and get rid of Haag or Oesterle at the end of the season.
About the best signing they could have hatched with D prospects almost on the edge of signing or letting go.
For starters it appears fellow Fin Antti Tuomisto is not going to pan out as a prospect and will go unsigned to pursue other opportunities. The window with Albert Johansson may also be closing to where he is only an AHL level type or bottom NHL pairing which would be optional.
Wallinder's next move is AHL to see what this next step will bring.
McIssac and Sebrango who both are on the edge of the roster do not have great numbers unless they are stay at home defenders.
Great value contract, and he's young enough to develop some offensive upside. I wish he was a bit more physical but smart positioning and consistent coverage are more important at this juncture.
