@Kings de Los Angeles

Les fans sont évidemment partagés sur Quick. Mais c’est gênant. Je vais prendre les votes négatifs, il doit se retirer dans la gloire des Kings de Los Angeles.

Agreed. We will never forget him for everything he has done for the team. Super human. It is time for him to retire in glory.

Playing goalie at an NHL level requires ELITE athleticism, instincts, technique and reflexes. Quick simply doesn’t have that anymore. It’s amazing that he made it to 37 before the wheels fell off but now they obviously have.

Broduer retired at 41. Patrick Roy retired at 37. Lundqvist retired at 37.

The team in front of him stopped skating in the second period last night. It was like night and day.
But yeah, he relied more on his amazing athleticism rather than sound positioning to be successful in the past. He can’t do that anymore. As he gets older he needs to adjust his game to be more dependent on positioning…which, full circle, is hard to do if your team stops skating in front of you.

Based on last night, I’d say switch him out in the last few minutes so he can be the goalie on the ice for the shootout. That mid-air paddle/stick save last night during the SO was peak Quick right there. 🙂

Jonathan Slow. I love that man but yeah it might be time.

Drew knocked out Quick’s leg on the 2 on 1 goal. The fuck are you upset with quick on that one about?

  7. may_or_may_not_haiku

3 of the 5 goals last night were him a mile away from the net.

It’s one thing to aggressively approach the shot, it’s another to do it in such a way that you conpeltely open up the net from all other angles.

He relied on raw athleticism in his prime, he didn’t sharpen his technique as his agility faded.

  9. He’s not as bad as the stats say he is. But he’s not good either. He’s a franchise legend though so we need to let him play out the season on the roster. At this point I’m just hoping to see some wins in the final few starts of his career.

I think it’s crazy that people downvote for things like this. Two statements can be true at the same time:

    – Quick is a legend and will retire with his number in the rafters and very possibly a statue and a HoF induction.

    – Quick is 37 years old and not a good goaltender anymore. This should be his final NHL season.

Acknowledging the second statement does not negate the first.

It’s more than obvious he’s lost a step or two, he also seems to just not be able to be in position when there is traffic whether it be even strength or on the power play. On Arizona’s 4th goal he couldn’t even push off his pads to play the cross ice pass because he was so ridiculously far out of position, he literally just watched the pass from 3 feet outside of the crease.

He got zero help from the team, maybe one of the goals was his fault but were you watching the same game as me?

For years, under Sutter and after, they always said he gets better the more he plays. He hardly plays anymore, so it’s hard for him to establish that rhythm that was bringing him success.

  14. He doesn’t seem to be able to play a basic butterfly. I think he is too slow to move that he can’t but I also wonder about his physical injury or wear and tear he might have.

He never played a normal butterfly but now he looks like it’s one leg down most often.

He can’t handle a shot on the glove side. If he catches it, it includes a wild leg flair.

The mayhem in front of the net is him. He can’t control a rebound at all. The defense is in constant struggle because of him, where is it going to bounce now?

    Here’s the… He’s a legend thing

Honestly I think quicks main issue is his extremely aggressive style, coming way out of the crease to cut off angles and give the shooter less worked great several years ago but the players are so skilled now. You can’t be that aggressive and not expect a bunch of backdoor goals nowadays. I do think he should retire at the end of the year, and obviously he’s still a legend and an all time great just past his prime.

  16. Quick made two huge saves last night that allowed the team that collapsed in front of him and gave up a 4 goal lead to win it. One of those saves was pretty damn athletic.

This team does not know how to shut it down with a lead. That’s not on Quick, or Copper, or Cal.

The alternative to retiring after this season is just inevitable further decline. I agree that he should hang em up, enjoy having his number retired, and be remembered as a premier athlete.

The longer he remains the more memories the entire fanbase will form of performances like last night’s game.

Let’s just win the cup this year to help make this decision easy for him!

  18. flackguns

Doughty ran into quicks right pad tho.

  19. humbuckermudgeon

Some of us thought this years ago. Yeah… he would occasionally have bright sparks, but he hasn’t been great for a while now.

  20. Jvdhyde

Quick was once the greatest goalie in the world. He was snubbed for Vezna and hart trophies in 2012. I agree he needs to hang them up. Before all he is remembered for is staying too long.

  21. the_jimmie_dimmick

Quick is definitely a liability this season, but with Peterson still playing lackluster in Ontario, he’s all we got. The Kings are a Copley injury away from a bad season.

  22. Double_oh__7

Oh, no pictures of the 3 saves in the shootout? Pourquoi?

  23. ThatBigNoodle

Yep. He realistically should not even be our backup during our playoff run. But we can’t do that to quick.
