Wow, really reminds you how thin the margin for error was this season and how stupid it was to trade yet another first round pick and your top prospect away.
At least we can be sure the pick won’t convey this year. But Horvat will keep the season from collapsing into the tank. So we won’t even get a good draft pick out of it. Wonderful.
Time to sell. Hope we can finish in the bottom 12 this season and keep our pick bc we definitely aren’t making it now
I hate Lou Lamoriello medical updates. Indefinitely means the season but it would be nice to know what happened. It’s not really a good look when we get an update months after the fact like in Wahlstroms case where people happened to see him in the press box looking like he just had surgery.
Does anyone with any kind of background in medicine/sport science have any clue what the injury was based on that hit? To me I didn’t see any weird bends or anything like you see with a torn ACL. Could it be just a really bad contusion?

Even if we would have looked good the past couple of weeks we wouldn’t be able to survive any playoff series without Barzal. So now it’s either sell it all or place Barzal on LTIR and go for a big trade.

The next few weeks will either include selling off pending UFAs, or Lou making a batshit crazy trade to acquire an overpaid rental with Barzy’s cap space.
Or he just sticks with the current group because « he believes in this team ». I honestly don’t know which of the 3 I expect.
Guys, FYI Pierre Lebrun just tweeted that it is week to week and the Isles plan on Barzal being back sometime this year. So that’s good news.

Retool around a first line of Barzal, Horvat and Wally (or other if traded for).
I think a serious look at trading Nelson and Varly is needed. Nelson because they can get a lot for him and Varly because the goalie market at the deadline is VERY thin and teams like Seattle and LA desperately need it.

I’m a pretty optimistic guy when it comes to sports (it doesn’t feel good to be pessimistic so I choose to be delusional when it comes to this thing that ultimately doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things), but that’s about the final nail in the coffin for me. On the bright side, this’ll force Lou’s hand to sell. We were already in a really tough situation, so at least we’ll be able to recoup some assets instead of sitting still and letting folks like Varly and Mayfield go for nothing.
