Honestly, he is a better option than a lot of folks we currently have to play top six wing especially once Barbashev is traded. They’re hoping for a rehab but I’m still confused because… we don’t have a lot of cap space.

He’s a disaster. Very talented, but plays hard maybe one in 8 games.

Ehh not a fan. While it’s possible we could resurrect his Toronto form, taking on this risky cap just seems dumb. And a sure sign, we won;t be getting Meier. At this point, returning him to actual tradeable asset status before summer is probably the best outcome.
He can keep up with Kyrou, could be a good pickup. He is a reclamation project, and someone needs to play on this team next year.

This only makes sense if we do a later trade with Pittsburgh and a « NOTHING TO SEE HERE » wink wink deal was done.
There are only 15 players signed next year and still $10 mil in cap space. If Barbie is traded there will be >$12 mil in space and still 8 more players needed for 23 roster spots.
Best case scenario, Chief gets him back to his Leafs level. (Which if he gets his shit together could mean he’s flipped by next year’s deadline). Worst case, he adds some speed to Kyrou’s line and is gone after next year, or waived again.
I also wonder if this was some sort of agreement between Armstrong and Hextall for some future considerations.
