Truly believed he was the player who would take us over the edge. Will be interesting to see what DW does now.

We will see what the return is but if New Jersey didn’t have to give up too much I’ll be incredibly disappointed with our front office.
FortunateFault
It would be nice to see us make big moves like other teams. Especially when all those teams have more firepower than us already.

No contract extension. Interesting.

Expected it, but still sucks. If they get him without giving up Mercer we might be in trouble

One would assume it’s not the easiest task, talking a top player in their prime to come to Raleigh to live out their best years. Not exactly the most exciting proposition in the world, but at least we didn’t sell the farm for him. We’ll get the right “fit” eventually, patience is a virtue eh.
millard_spillmore
Was mad initially but if it’s true they gave up Simon Nemec we couldn’t compete with that.
Kane to Rangers at some point…I’m sure we have something in play to push us to the next level too …right?
psyopsono
At least I was lubed up with the information about us probably losing out on him before i got dry fucked in the ass but ouch. I hope NJ had to sell the farm.

Nice now I’m pissed off even more after last night!

Fwiw, I think FO knew this was likely to happen and their ‘backup’ plan will knock our socks off. Just a gut feeling.
Tedy_Duchamp
Well if we get bounced in the second again we have no one to blame but ourselves. Don likes the group we have and so do I, just hope it’s enough to get over the hump this year

Seravalli says these are deals that were offered that SJ turned down:
Team 1: 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, top prospect
Team 2: 1st round pick, recently drafted 1st round pick, mid-tier prospect
I would bet that Team 2 here was Carolina and the recently drafted 1st rounder was Suzuki and the mid-tier prospect Drury

Hello depth piece, my old friend
I’ve come to trade for you again
There was a vision softly creeping
Goal support while I was sleeping
And the vision of Meier in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence (from our front office)

Devils traded Shakir Mukhamadullin, Fabian Zetterlund, Andreas Johnsson, Nikita Okhotiuk, a 2023 1st round pick and a 2024 conditional first round pick for Timo. So a good but not great prospect, two bottom-6 forwards, a young fringe D-man, and draft picks. NJ got the best player available (albeit without an extension) and didn’t have to give up Mercer, Holtz, Nemec, or Hughes.
I can’t help but feel disappointed we couldn’t beat that. And now every single one of our biggest competitors in the East have gotten significantly stronger without giving up major assets.
