  1. What do we expect here?

Do we get an actual return, a prospect and/ or picks? Or are we just dumping a contract with little in return?

  2. STLBooze3

Doug gonna trade away a first round pick to get someone to take 55 off our hands? Lol

  3. Yimpish

Hot take but I wouldn’t want to retain on him and I would expect a return on him. Finding someone that can eat minutes like him at that price is a rare commodity these days.

Walman being a revelation for the Wings is making me start to believe it’s our coaches and not Parayko. Really wish we’d consider overhauling the defense by starting with a new defensive coach just to see if Parayko would respond better. Because he’s the kind of player that could flourish in the right situation like he did when he played with Bouwmeester.

But also at the end of the day if some team is willing to give us assets to take his contract I think you do it. But our defense would look super rough and he’s not as much of a problem as the Krug/Leddy/Faulk contracts IMO

Dropping Parayko would be a mistake because my wife is in love with him and won’t watch hockey with me anymore.

Also dropping Parayko is a mistake because I think he’s a lot better than he looks. Pair him with someone half useful and shave down some minutes and he will be worth more than his cost.

Big D has something flipping brewing

If Eric Karlsson really is available… dumping 55 to Edm and then going back to San Jose with a package for Karlsson could be a game changing move.

We’d have to get a top-4 type back in return. If we don’t we’re going to end up overpaying someone like Dumba, Gostisbehere, or Klingberg as a free agent.

A core of Faulk, Krug, Leddy, and Bortz is…not great.

Going to be interesting to see if he plays tonight.

That would make it sparkling clear this isn’t a rebuild on the fly, but a build-up-prospects for 2026 to be the first year this team competes for the playoffs again.

He’s next in line per my jersey wall.

Our defensive coaching sucks. Walman is putting us on blast in Detroit. Move a dman sure, but fire the d-coach too?

  12. MrTuesdayNight1

Despite all the flack he gets, Parayko’s our best defenseman and I can guarantee the Blues don’t move him without getting a significant return from a desperate team. I’m talking one of those, « Holy shit, what were they thinking? » type of returns.

That said, if you take a look at a team like the Flames, their GM is probably feeling the heat right now and with a roster that looks pretty stacked on paper, I can’t help but wonder if Army could work a ROR kind of miracle here.

  13. Tizzycrusher

Losing Parayko is going to haunt this team when he goes to a competent defensive system.

There is no Parayko replacement in the system, and there are no FAs out there the Blues would get. No team trades players like Parayko. The team is committing to a long rebuild if they trade Parayko at a loss.

  14. AutumWind0

If you trade colt55 you’re admitting it’s a full rebuild and not a retool. I think it’s easier to retain him and try these defensive players with a new assistant coach rather than restructure the entire blue line. HOWEVER if someone makes you an offer you can’t refuse, then you gotta take it.

  15. Bouwistrash

It’s astonishing seeing those in the comments that want to keep him… massive underachiever. Lets break things down here:

    * his minutes can be replaced. players all around the league play those minutes every night at a way higher quality
    * who cares if it’s just a salary dump. It’s what we need to be able to move forward in the right direction and rebuild/retool

Now the interesting part I see in the comments I can agree with and have been saying this since 2020. Berube and staff have to go. Walman and Dunn are excelling elsewhere because they have better coaching. People forget the biggest reason we won the cup outside of Binner was Larry Robinson coaching the defense. That was the best Parayko, Bouw, Gunner, and Eddy EVER looked here. Larry Robinson goes after that and the wheels of the entire defense continue to fall off ever since along with obviously horrible roster moves by Army. I don’t doubt Colt55 can go somewhere else and succeed like Walman and Dunn are doing. We just need that contract off the books. But we also need to clean house of the entire coaching staff. It’s extremely obvious Monty carried the staff last year with this team.

  16. stltk65

Yeah you don’t move #55 if you are retooling….that’s a fuckin rebuild….and you don’t do those half assed. So move Krug too! Also if you move anyone its the offense first type guys like Faulk and Krug. And yes I realize how he’s played the last 2-3 years.

  17. 0neiros

55 Comments when i saw this. thats gotta mean something right?

  18. I just fully expect that if we trade him, he will be lights out amazing with another team

    Que será será

  19. DartyFrank

When all of your defense isn’t playing well it’s the coaching/scheme. Parayko may never be Pronger, but he’s still a high level D man, just needs a better pairing that plays to his strengths.

    Edit: f’d up spell check

  20. mhanna86

Can we trade Krug instead? Please?

  21. seannifer

He’s had a rough go lately but I think this would be a bad decision.

  22. nontechnicalbowler

I’ll believe it when I see it

  23. It just depends on the return. We need cap space and serviceable defensemen. Two things at odds with eachother. If army can find a team with pie in the sky eyes for Parayko and desperate to win now I could see a good trade out there

  24. VanSportsFan

I’ve heard it will be a straight swap ….OEL for Parayko

  25. ModernLOCKE

Team is going to be more AHL than NHL by the end of the season
