The only positive about this mess was the 4th line. They were pouring their hearts out; top 6 were barely noticeable

  2. These boys better get their shit together for Calgary tomorrow.

  3. The-Only-Razor

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Matthews that invisible. That was painful to watch.

  4. ProfessorBeast55

NEVER PLAY RIELLY-HOLL TOGETHER AGAIN KEEFE

  5. freakypsycho

You know it’s an off night when TJ Brodie is one of your most dangerous offensive players

  6. HowieFeltersnitz

Holl doing his best Schenn impression trying to stay in the lineup

  7. senile-animal

Not gunna lie, I expected more and exactly this at the same time. The crew will mesh soon.. eventually.. right? Of course they will.. I’m pretty sure

  8. charliem11

Holl named both Best and Worst player of the game… Somehow.

  9. VandyMatt77

Trade for whoever you want. If 34 and 44 don’t start playing like themselves, we’re cooked. Go leafs!

  10. PapiMatthews

I dont know what is happening with Matthews, but he doesn’t seem to be an impact player this year. We are not getting anywhere if he goes cold like this in the playoffs.

  11. SpectretheGreat

A nice warm welcome for all our new dudes, really giving ’em a taste of what’s to come. In all seriousness, shit game but we’ll get ’em next time.

  12. cappo40

It’s ok, new team (23 new players), amnesia for said new players, Springsteen and booze, etc.

  13. BCharmer

Well that was a terrible game. Totally deflated the wind in the sails from Dubas’ trades.

Better have something to answer with next time we see them because that entire game was trash.

  14. BowieWowbagger

One game, on to the next, yada yada… Sure, I don’t like to be reactionary but god damn, did they have to slaughter the hype in cold blood that way?!

  15. StaticR0ute

With all of the action lately, I was looking forward to this game all week… Then they laid the hugest fucking egg.

I figured there might be some growing pains with the new players, but come on. Even the regulars were flubbing passes, whiffing on shots and way out of position. What a cluster.

Hopefully they can clean it up and play a better game tomorrow.

  16. incredibad29

That was probably our worst game of the season. Oh well, you burn the tape and move on.

  17. AdvancedAd85

On the plus side, the game’s over

  18. AustichMavarlander

That was the most embarassing shit ive seen in a long time. Im gonna assume getting in one at Springsteen affected some haha but better flush that bullshit and play better tomorrow. They couldnt make a simple pass. Dont even wanna think about it it was just pathetic.

  19. Dull_Significance711

Boys were still recovering from the Bruce Springsteen after party.

  20. B-Rayy06

Morgan Rielly is making 7.5 million dollars per year until 2030 and the best thing you can say about him is that sometimes he keeps the puck in the zone on the power play.

Sandin was better than Rielly because hr could actually defend but for some reason people think Morgan Rielly is a 1D.

  21. anthonyd3ca

Gio had the most shots on net tonight. That ain’t right.

  22. CMDRShepardN7

I’d be more worried if this was their best effort. But thank god, they weren’t in it from puck drop.

  23. DougFordsGamblingAds

Maybe they shouldn’t have prepped for this game by drinking at a Springsteen concert.

  24. I wonder if Matthews is playing with something bothering him. Right now he looks like a dime a dozen 5 mil skilled forward, not the 11mil generational talent he was touted to be. I was literally more impressed with Hyman tonight. Matthews didn’t have any sharp passes and couldn’t handle any passes tonight. He had a couple flashes of his quick handles but none of his jaw dropping handles that compliment his insane shooting. Actually, I havn’t seen him shoot like he did in his first year in awhile. It is just so odd.

  25. CMDRShepardN7

I’m guessing Springsteen related comic by BrianBeLeafs?

Not a suggestion, just a guess.

  26. Skitron

Matthews must be injured. He is dangerous with the puck but he has completely lost his transition game. The rush of him coming off the wing is completely gone. He’s too young for anything but an injury.

  27. dres_sler

That game SUCKED. We didn’t play like our normal selves at all.

Hopefully we play much better tomorrow.

  28. 6-8-5-13

McDavid is the only Leafs fan having a good night tonight.

  29. bongmitzfah

Keefe needs to explain why he put reilly and holl on first pair

  30. howsshegoin

if I’m keefe im in the hallway going full tortorella looking for woodcroft for sending a heavyweight goon after the top pairing dman I’ve tied my career to

  31. Aedan2016

    What is up with Matthews?

He’s been invisible for large portions of the year

  32. JoeRoganHair

    Rielly-Holl experiment must END!!!

  33. FatStupidOldMan

This particular game sucks and the coming weeks are going to be unkind to Dubas is the Leafs lose to basement teams.

In this instance, I really do think there still some adjusting going on with the team. I have an older comment but I’ll say it here again: I wonder much of the team’s cohesion has been affected by these trades.

For sure they’ll get that cohesion back, but the question is: will it be in time to win?

This game, it sucks they lost but it’s not the end of the world and the team can afford to lose.

The remaining games are going to be brutal in terms of media…

The Leafs have, in chronological order upcoming:
    – Flames
    – Canucks (Bottom 10)

    …and now the fun parts…

    – Devils (3rd)
    – Oilers (11th)
    – Sabres
    – Avalanche (12th)
    – Hurricanes (2nd)
    – Senators
    – Islanders (15th)
    – Panthers
    – Hurricanes (2nd)
    – Predators
    – Panthers
    – Senators
    – Red Wings (Bottom 10)
    – Blue Jackets (Bottom 10)
    – Bruins (1st)
    – Canadiens (Bottom 10)
    – Panthers
    – Lightning (6th)
    – Rangers (5th)

Every time the Leafs lose to a contender, the media will say: “How long until they’re ready?” Or “Were these changes worth it?”

Every time they lose to a bottom 10 team, the critique will be: “They changed too much too fast.”, “The trades were bad.”

If they lose to Montreal, Leaf fans will despair. Especially at the end of the season.

If they lose that Tampa game towards the end the self doubt will begin to settle in.

We need to ignore the media and trust in the process. The Leafs can do this. Let’s just hope the media chills the fuck out and if they don’t, fans should. The team has real potential and it’s a process.
