@Flyers de Philadelphie

This organization is a disgrace. I never thought it would get that bad. It was basically a Rangers home game. This needs to be a wake up call, but it probably won’t be to our dumbass front office. What a joke….

The business will only see this as a success. They got tickets bought and asses in seats. That’s all they want.

The heart of the Flyers died with Ed Snyder

I know this is a shit on the organization post, but there were a lot of people who probably bought tickets two days ago expecting this to be Kane’s first game cause a lot of people were originally reporting it. It definitely wouldn’t been like this a week ago and probably wouldn’t have been like it in a week or two.

Also, I watched Steve Dangle’s video from last night and he talked about how many Toronto fans were in Edmonton for the game and you could hear them watching the broadcast. Edmonton is in the thick of the hunt, just had a big acquisition, and has the most exciting player in hockey. Toronto fans like Ranger fans are very hyped right now, Toronto and the Rangers also have an expensive secondary market for tickets regularly and that can blow up when there is a lot of hype around the team. It’s not surprising a lot of Rangers fans made the trip.

I’m not saying this isn’t disappointing to see the building full of Rangers fans, but when Flyers fans are hoping for a fire sale its not surprising a hyped fan base from 2hrs away can invade the building.

For years this fanbase had made fun of the floridas and arizonas fanbase. But this is where we are headed. A completely indifferent city and half empty arena that gets taken over regularly. This franchise is dead in the ground and will be for years to come as long as Chuck is around.

  6. RexxAppeal

There have not been years when the building was half empty until very recently. Late season games on bad years sure, but not over a whole season like this.

And I’ve been to plenty of games over the years that felt invaded by NY, Pittsburgh, or Montréal fans. STHs are all to willing to profiteer on rivalry games.

What happened last night was embarrassing. But the real damage will be how ownership reacts to it.

Obviously the goal is to reinvigorate this fan base so that the fans in orange always drown out the opposing fans. But I could absolutely see this ownership group panicking and deciding they need to make desperate short-term moves so that fans get back on board next year. Which, of course, just means more of the same. Prioritizing slight improvement in the short term over more long-term thinking, like building a sustained Cup contender.

My fear is that all this embarrassment leads to this front office continuing to dig this hole deeper and deeper. This organization is *so damn afraid* to take its medicine and accept that yearly roster tweaking isn’t the solution. They will not accept the idea that being slightly better next year is *far worse* than being bad for a while, in service of being a great team further down the line.

As a member of Team Tank. I’m not so upset about this. I would expect fans of nearby teams who are playoff bound to come watch their team’s at a cheaper price. It’s a shitty feeling… but I’m hoping we tank at least one/two more years (while shedding cap and contracts) before we start signing free agents and trading for difference makers. So while we suck… fans of opponents will take up more seats in the Wells Fargo Center than usual. I’m prepared for it… as long as we have a plan and timeline and stick to it.

Mr. Snider is rolling over in his grave right now

Comcast doesn’t give a shit as long as tickets are sold and it makes a profit. Next they’ll field Mrs. Gritty, then they’ll launch a Gritty Family sitcom on one of their cable/subscriber channels to increase revenues…

Until they sell to a Jeffrey Lurie/Ted Leonsis-type owner that actually gives a shit about the competitive on-ice product because *they want to fucking win* as well as turn a profit.

  11. happypills91

Fans can’t get mad the building is getting taken over if you yourself a fan are not willing to go to the games. You can either be mad about it and buy tickets the next time NYR or NJD come to town or just sit there and be quiet.

You don’t get to make the argument during a low time in the teams history that it’s a disgrace other fans are coming here and then in the same breath not be willing to go to games yourself.

If you’re not willing to spend the money on tickets yourself that’s fair but don’t get upset that Rangers or Devils fans are willing to spend the money. But, Christ, even if the building was full of our fans most of you would call those people sheep and say they are part of the problem giving Comcast money. Kindly fuck off.

  12. thegoodnamesrgone123

It also highlights how expensive it is to go to a Rangers came. A few years ago friends of mine who are Rangers fans figured out it was cheaper to fly to Tampa, get a hotel, and buy lower level tickets than it was to buy tickets to see them in NYC. They made a nice little long weekend out of it.

  13. SplendaMan

When was the last time our team was so exciting and making insane moves and poised for a cup push worthy of invading a neighboring stadium? I can’t fucking blame em. Hate on NY and NJ all you want but they’re in amazing shape. If only they shared common ground i.e. rebuilding, drafting well and young, sending a letter to the fans about the years of pain ahead in effort to improve for this moment, if only.

  14. MajinSkull

I went to the Canadians game last week.
That was the first game I’ve ever been too (been going since middle school and I’m 29 now)
That’s I couldn’t wait for the game to end. We just look so pathetic

  15. Franchise has reached absolute rock bottom. The flyers may actually be the worst franchise in the four major American sports at this point

  16. Fig_Newton_

“You’re weak, you’re outta control, and you’ve become an embarrassment to yourself and everyone else”

  17. People in the comments making any sort of excuse for this maybe never lived through when Flyers management actually cared. This would be completely unacceptable. I’ve been through some bad years and I have never seen anything even close to this happen in Philly.

This fanbase is completely alienated, which is a hell of a feat because honestly for decades aside from the eagles, they definitely had the strongest fanbase in the city.

  18. Effinehright

I don’t know what to say I am devils fan and after the « touchdown » and Torts’ quotes, I almost feel bad for you fans…

  19. dishwasher_mayhem

I’m 47 and I’ve never been less interested in this team. This team is a relic that’s relied on the 1970’s to be its identity. Now that Comcast owns it, the Flyers are just another corporate shell of what once was. I’m turning down free tickets because I don’t want to waste money on parking and food…and give ANY money to this org.

The Philadelphia Flyers are a garbage hockey team and a garbage organization. That won’t stop until Comcast sells this team to someone that actually cares about winning. There’s nothing to look forward to on the horizon.

I already hate next season and the season after that.

  20. basicname18

The Flyers are the Justin Trudeau of the NHL

  21. pizzakid13

That’s not true. Flyer fans have continued to fill that building for decades, no matter how bad the team may be. They buy up all the jerseys and pins and pens and stupid santa sacks on top of the tix. Just because ranger fans got a bunch of tix for last nights game doesnt mean they werent already sold before that. And thats all that comcast cares about. It’s been a license to print money forever. That’s the biggest problem honestly. But then again, having an idiot named clarke run the team who just happens to have the ear of the empty suit owner dave scott might be worse.

    That’s why they’re called stepfords.

  22. MessianicHack

The last time would be a couple of days ago when devils fans took over

  23. phillyprince9397

10 more years of this and say hello to the Kansas City Flyers

  24. Chiflyer84

How is this even close to being competitive? Chuck was brought in the make the proper changes to make the Flyers relevant again for years to come. What has changed? Nothing! Firing Chuck and giving Danny Briere a chance is a start, but the Flyers need new owners ASAP.

  25. dobsky1912

Comcast doesn’t care who buys a ticket, provided they get paid for the ticket.

  26. Ok_Orchid7131

I was at the fucking Montreal game and a few assholes with the help of a local guy we’re doing Eagle chants to fuck with us. That local guy is dead to me whoever he is. Then they started ole ole ole chants. Fucking embarrassing as a Flyers fan. I yelled them down as best I could but nobody else even cares in that building. I get that they are terrible and such, but that’s our building.

  27. guy_incognito888

half of the people who live in Philly now are NYC transplants so this tracks.

  28. jayradano

Makes me sick but what do they expect. This team and organization is a joke and we are stuck in the dead zone with no real end or way out with this incompetent leadership. It hurts me to see the team and organization like this, but this is what happens when you have a bunch of talking heads running the organization with no real knowledge of the game. We shoulda been in tank mode since day 1 this season, we shoulda offloaded big contracts for prospects or picks (JVR, Hayes) we shouldn’t of given horrible contracts to mid level players (sanheim, Provy) and we shouldn’t have signed players like Tony D which was a pointless signing in retrospect regardless how “Philly” the guy is. Blow this team up, save a select few of our younger guys and lose out. We need a young generational talent and beddard woulda been a nice place to start with.

  29. GrittyTheGreat

Ownership simply does not care. Bob Clarke calls the shots and he wants Fletcher in control. Nothing changes until either Comcast sells, Scott is replaced, or Clarke dies.

  30. Christ, that’s a lot of Rags fans. I’ve never seen that sort of away representation before

  31. huskycarrot751

Was in the bathroom when the rangers scored the tying goal. The roar was so loud I thought to myself “oh sweet Flyers pulled ahead 3-1.” No such dice.

  32. phattsrules

I know what will fix this! Another Gritty!

  33. joy4874

It’s going to be unacceptable when all of those Flyers fans in the stands stop going to the games. As long as they’re still making money this won’t even register on their radar.

I haven’t watched a single period all season and I couldn’t be happier. Not giving in until Fletcher is fired.
