Not sure if everybody’s playing yet but every player we traded away (minus Hronek) plays tonight at varying times. Could be interesting to see some debuts from Bert, Vrana, and Sunny.
Yzerman actually signed Chairot to weigh down his partners. He wants to re-sign them all on cheap deals.
Can someone tell me what “future considerations” means?
As much as we all wanted to see the pre-deadline roster make a run, I think we all need to agree with Stevie that the roster wasn’t a cup contending team and he had to get value for pending UFA’s. I agree 100% with him that we need to build our core through the draft and use free agents to fill in the gaps. He’s not wrong with looking at where Ottawa and Buffalo are and them being the teams we will compete with in the Atlantic in the near future. Tampa, Boston, and Toronto are so far ahead talent wise from the Wings that it would feel unnecessary to try and buy their way to try and compete with them this year.
I’m unsure why so many people are acting like things have drastically changed because Yzerman was a seller and now the Wings have no hope of anything but losing for the remainder of the season.
We traded away Hronek, Bert, Vrana, and Sunny. Bert is great and Vrana can be, but neither were for the Wings this season because they were out for most of it. The successes the Wings had this year were largely made without them anyway.
Hronek and Sunny were obviously bigger assets to the team this year, but I wouldn’t say trading them away is enough to sink the Wings’ prospects that much. They were grinders for sure, and I think we’ll feel their losses at points, but there’s enough talent on this team to avoid massive tumbles after the loss of two decent – not great – contributors.
I think the bigger problems facing this team are that the young guys need more experience and they need to get the consistency that comes with playing hard every night as a cohesive unit. You could argue that having to fill now-empty roster spots with younger players who haven’t played at an NHL level yet makes this problem worse, but this is also an issue we’ve had all season, well before the trade deadline.
I wanna see the 18 draft line together for the rest of the year.

I’m gonna stream the bruins game today and see how Bert does. That team will be so greasy and entertaining with him in the lineup.
