Personally I think the Holl hate is overblown, but I look forward to figuring out who the next D scapegoat is if we lose
50% of /r/leafs just blew their load.

This is step 1 of a 4-step plan.
1) scratch Holl to get the flies off.
2) Put in Schenn/Liljegren/Timmins/Gustafsson
3) Make a comment in the post-game interview that the player from step 2 had a bad giveaway or wasn’t in position or something
4) Put Holl back in tomorrow.
Damn I was really excited to watch him play in person
Would still like to see 7D dressed but I want Timmins over Gus. The 6 tonight and Timmins is the ideal setup for a 7D night.
He doesn’t deserve all the hate. If Keefe put him on the 3rd pair then I’m sure we’d all love him the way we did when we called him up from the Marlies. Instead he gets played 22 a night on 1st PK and struggles which leads to the fanbase turning on him.

I don’t *hate* Justin Holl, I hate the way Keefe deploys him. He’s not a top pairing guy, and he’s not a top shutdown guy, yet there he is constantly getting 20 mins+ against the top comp every night
I don’t think Holl is nearly as bad as a lot of Reddit and twitter but it’s still nice to see Keefe is willing to scratch him.

Oh no who will The « No Hollers » blame when a goal goes in now… Kerfoot?, Reilly?. The Bench Seat?
I say this because I’ve witnessed here people blaming Holl for goals let in while he was sitting on the fucking bench!
There’s a certain type of people in this sub for the Toronto Maple Leafs that have this fascination of hating certain players no matter what

Personally I don’t find Holl much worse than any other D in the lineup. Sure he makes bad plays sometimes but they all do.
Last game vs Colorado, Reilly played fairly well. He also mad some dumb turnovers via bad passes/clearing attempts. One shift I think there was two or three possession losses from him alone.
I find Holl has been more physical and made some good passes recently.
Also, to those who wish for Sandin back. He is a small defence that got beat around out there and would not have made any significant impact during playoff hockey. I would take any of the pickups we got at the trade deadline over Sandin.
I find the team as a whole is getting a little grittier in physical games and not backing down. There are still times where they should play the body but aren’t, hopefully by playoffs, they are ready for that physicality.
Holl is insanely useful for a 2M defender. His numbers are fine.
This sub just loves a scapegoat.
