Thankfully Edmonton media made a big deal for at least the first few years whenever Mcdavid and Crosby played each other. And even Mcdavid would say that Crosby is the best player in the NHL during that time. But yeah lately, it's crickets around Crosby.

And I guarantee you, that if you asked in Europe the answers would be quite different. NHL is no longer only northern Americans for many years now. Yet all these vids and polls are so America centric it's like European players and fans are non existent. If you grew up in the 90ties I would bet that many young kids idolized Lemieux, Jágr, Brodeur or Hašek. Granted, Sid the kid came later but I hope you get my point.

I got to see him play live for the first time in Dallas on Thursday. He’s been my favorite hockey player since I was maybe 8 or 9. I remember practicing my mohawks on the ice because my dad showed me crazy edgework compilations by Sid. I got to see my hero score Thursday, and it was incredible.
Crosby is a top 5 all time and will forever be remembered. it'll be a sad sad day the day he hangs em up. Sid the kid, The Goat. Golden boy. Legend

I’m lucky enough to have lived in or around the Pittsburgh area my whole life and watched Mario, Jagr, Sid and Geno in person. Not to mention McDavid with the Erie Otters. There is no better area or atmosphere I could’ve grown up in as a fan of the game. But I could see how people who aren’t from around here might forget how hype that era was.

I love the way McDavid plays but I wouldn't say McDavid is more talented. The stuff he does he can do because of thousands of houres watching Crosby and trying to mimic him. I guess that goes for all them unbelivably skillful young kids storming the league. It's not to underestimate what progress the sport made and still will make through the combination of internet, better training methods and creativ fast thinking players.
All the other players you mentioned, are not anywhere near the complete player Crosby is. That makes him better in my books.
