No one cares about culture, only cups. The flyers are
4th on the list of longest droughts without a Stanley Cup. The flyers need a superstar/s.
Culture doesn’t mean a fucking thing, only high end talent matters. The Flyers don’t have that.
So next 10 years we get a team with peak *culture* and 12 Scott Laughtons and 6 Ivan Provorovs and 1st round exits every spring. Great.
I mean, you can’t expect players to play bad hockey intentionally, nor a coaching staff to try and make their team lose intentionally.
The ship sailed for tanking due to all the decisions the front office has made, like hiring Torts in the first place, signing/extending/keeping guys, not making any significant trades to ship guys out, etc.
The teams you currently see tanking are able to do so because of factors unrelated to the actual play on the ice (ex. Chicago gutting their roster, Anaheim keeping a bad coach for the last year of his deal rather than firing him, Arizona being Arizona, etc.).
This doesnt change anything … obviously the coach and players are not going to tank and there is some good from young players playing well down the stretch.
But as a fan we 100% can state without a doubt that it would be far better if we got a real high pick this year to get a much needed high end talent that this team desperately lacks.
This team completely lacks top line/pair ability. Doesnt even have much bona fide top 6/4 guys either. Its mainly middle lineup talent.
I think you’ll see a gutting start over the summer. I expect it will be ruthless and I don’t think anyone on the roster is safe. There aren’t any players that are off limits.
I fully expect that Hayes, Ristolainen, TDA, Atkinson, Provorov and Sanheim to be fully shopped. I also expect that Briere will listen to offers on Laughton and I also expect Briere to leverage either Hart or TK into a Meier-like deal for the Flyers.
This roster is going to look incredibly different next season. Will it be better? I don’t know. But things are going to be shaken up, for certain.

Tanking isn’t done by the players, it’s done by controlling who is on the ice via sitting/scratching & trading away pieces for assets.
Apathy set in long ago. Just another step of this franchise not being able to do anything right. Wake me up in 2030 when we’re 3-5 years away again.

Flyers midas we’ll keep winning, after the first elite 4-5 picks the next 10 are all real good. We get one great pick to hit a home run.
Will be good for Coots and TK to get games in and end the season healthy. Keep the kids playing 1 line mins and the vets can play third line time.
Next season, a healthy team with a winning culture will help no matter if there is a fire sale or not.
….. If they really wanted to trade the untraceable, they would need to feature them, play them alot and bring some value to the table for a trade… That’s simply not happening.
There isn’t going to be a rebuild. It’s going to be the same strategy they used during Hextall’s tenure. Nothing is going to change.
Look at the standings…the aren’t getting a top 5 pick this year when it’s their ONLY PICK that will be relevant. They will miss out yet again on high end talent, draft another player 9-15, say everything is good, miss playoffs by 5-9 points, draft again in the middle of the pack and continue the cycle forever.
This team is not committed to doing the thing needed to build a winner ie lose and lose hard for 3-5 years and build this team from the ground up, trade everyone for whatever picks they can and just lose.
I don’t care about culture. You get culture from winning. You get culture from being a place where players want to play for because they want to win.
50 years. This team is on the precipice of no cups for 50 years. I would like to see one before I die.

There’s also integrity. I’d rather them give effort to win instead of effort to fail.
I’m passed at them, but they’re our team. They wouldn’t be my team if they deliberately flopped. But I’ll be here through the struggle!
