Is Luka Doncic getting too much blame or not enough blame for Mavs issues?
Lukas 24, he still isn’t in his prime left. We need to resign kyrie, keep hardy and green so we have some drafted talent to develop, and the rest of the roster should be rebounding, defense, and some old vets who are respected. We need that bench vet and pinson ain’t it.

Luka is to blame because the Dallas Mavericks are making decisions for purely financial reasons, when Luka is supposed to be leveraging them to go all in for a championship. He said yes to Kyrie in exchange for two starters. A purely financial decision. There should be pressure on Dallas to extend themselves…..balking at four years, 55 million for Jalen Brunson? Seems to me that Luka has give his power as a superstar over to Jason Kidd. They are 9-4 with Wood in the starting lineup, one example of how there’s zero pressure on Kidd to find solutions.
They’ve been a flop in crunch time since Luka signed off on trading two starters for Kyrie. What’s been his shooting in crunch time since the Kyrie trade?
While Luka isn't perfect and needs to stop his crusade against refs and need to rather get back on defense too many times, he gets way too much blame. You (not specificaly you 2) want him to be the best scorrer, faciliator, rebounder and defender on the team. Isn't that a bit too much? What about the rest of a team that often doesn't show for some games at all, especially againt teams Mavs should easily beat?
Luka complains to damn much. If he gets a call he’s complaining, and if doesn’t get a call he’s complaining. At minimum 3 times per game he spends time complaining to the refs and never cross half court, and the other team typically scores and that’s 6 points. Can you imagine hustling back to only get beat by Luka’s guy and he’s still down the court. Jason Kidd can’t say anything to anyone because they’re looking like Luka’s the issue.
It didn’t cost Jordan, but it did cost Kobe multiple times. If you don’t think morale doesn’t affect ability you are bugging. As for the defense, yes you can. Timberwolves in D’Angelo Russell. Difference being Luka is so good on offense that it masks how much it has mattered.
I agree with Nick. Luka needs to hold his bum teammates accountable. He has every right to get frustrated. Greatness requires standards.
😞😞😞😞 Wow. In your "don't blame Luka section" you were just non-stop blaming Luka. I can't wait untill he leaves this irrelevant and incompetent franchise at the end of the next year. And then you two can talk every single day till the end of time about all of the faults and human imperfections of Luka. He is actually the least to blame for this awfull team, because there are more than 40 other problems in the team, before you would even start to think about Luka's faults and about Luka's role in this terrible Mavs team and franchise. In fact, he is the only one, who was keeping this bad team and franchise competitive and relevant for the past 5 years. And also this year, before the Kyrie trade, Luka had the Dallas Mavericks standing at the fourth place in the Western Conference. And all they needed to get for this team was one good defensive minded rim-protecting rebounding CENTER and two big athletic wing players, who would defend on the perimeter and shoot threes. This would be enough to win the Championship, because Luka is that great, especially as a versatile offensive basketball player.
But now, after the Kyrie trade, they don't even have Dorian as a 3&D player anymore, let alone two new additional 3&D wing players and an athletic center. Instead of this, they traded for Kyrie, who plays the exact same role as Luka, because he is the exact same type of player as Luka (a ball-dominant, iso-scoring pointguard), and therefore taking the ball out of Luka's hands and making Luka play off-the-ball alot more. That means, that Luka has to shoot alot of catch and shoot three's and we all know he is terrible at this. And it will probably always be this way for Luka in terms of the "off-the-ball catch and shoot three's". He is terrible at shooting threes in general. He is a very streaky shooter and very inefficient most of the games at shooting the three's. And because of this, he is a very inefficient player as a whole, when he is forced to shoot so many threes in a game.
Before the Kyrie trade, he was very efficient as an overall player (more than 50%), because he was taking only 6 to 8 threes per game. But now, after the trade, Luka has all of a sudden become very inefficient, because he has to shoot from 10 to 15 threes per game, because of the off-the-ball role that he was asigned for, from coach Kidd. Fun fact: almost every time Luka has an efficient game, the team wins. And he can't have an efficient game by shooting so many threes per game. He is not Curry in this aspect of the game and he will sadly never be, no matter how hard Kidd wants him to be. And we all know Kidd is very stuborn when he puts something in his mind, even if it means ruining Lukas efficient game performances and ruining Lukas excellent statistical numbers, that have almost always led this team to wins.
And by ruining Lukas efficiency numbers, Kidd is essentially also making the whole team less efficient (because Luka is the main player) and as a result of that, the team is losing alot more than it wins.
And all they needed for the team was one defensive center and two additional athletic 3&D players (next to Dorian, Bullock and Green). That means, all they needed was interior defence and perimeter defence, and certainly NOT the additional scoring (Kyrie).
So, Luka is the last and the least to blame for this bad team. And i don't even blame Kyrie for this situation (i think Kyrie is a talented basketball player and a great person).
All the blame goes to Cuban, Nico Harrison and Kidd for their lack of common sense, for their lack of intelligence and for their lack of competence.
When Luka finally leaves this incompetent franchise, we are gonna have a celebration and a big PARTY, and the Dallas Mavericks can just return to their irrelevant state of existing, like before Luka fell into their atmosphere by pure luck only, given how incompetent they are as a franchise (evidence for their incompetence even before Luka's time with the Mavericks: just look at Dirk's carriere – only one MVP award and only one Championship in 21 years in the NBA, eventhough he was a great player).
And now what is even more funny is how the Dallas franchise, the Dallas media and fans try to convince everybody into believing, that the reason why they haven't build a good winning team around Luka, is because Luka is a very ball dominant basketball player and therefore very hard to build around. What a pathetic, false and silly excuse.
So what exactly was Dirk's fault and reason for the inability to build around Dirk for the entirety of his 21 years of carriere in the NBA, except for one single year in 2011, when he finally won the Championship at the age of 33.
What is their lying fake excuse for their inability to build a good team around Dirk (eventhough Dirk had alot more help in his rosters through the years compared to Luka, but still very little compared to other stars in the league, except for that 2011 Championship roster).
So, please stop with the false excuses of the Dallas franchise for not being able to build a solid team around Luka in 5 years. And let the media and the fans stop blaming Luka and Kyrie for this incompetent franchise, for this terrible team, for this terrible roster, for the terrible roster construction by Cuban (Nico) and for the worst coaching by the worst coach in the history of the NBA (Kidd).

Bruh, this is the era of player empowerment. The real question is, why isn’t Luka using his leverage? He needs to be involved! Because there’s a superstar somewhere who is involved, using his leverage to get a team to extend themselves. Moves/non-moves are going to be attributed to him anyway. I’ve heard Mavericks media twist nearly every Cuban financial decision into a “they’re doing this to keep from losing Luka” move. Ridiculous.

Too much. The way the FO has decided to build around him and have done a poor job of putting pieces around him to cover the weaknesses and build strengths. Its been dumb moves and cheap. Its become a buddy club and not a person understands how to build a winning team. Next year will tell a huge story of what this franchise intends to do to win a championship or stay in mediocrity with there nice guy buddies
I learned, as a Cowboys fan, to watch these seasons as a movie or TV series. We as fans don't really have any control as to what happens with this team. "Twitter isn't the Coach". Instead of "next game" I say "the new episode".
Luka is out of shape, that's the #1 issue. He is getting injured because of it, his foot speed and stamina on D suffer because of it, his legs are gone by the 4th because of it. — Luka's playing shape is a big part of why this team struggles during clutch minutes. He needs to slim down and focus on becoming a 2-way player!

When Luka went into that first playoff series and dragged that team through 6 games. That’s when he realized the best course of action was him. He’s carried that style into every season since. If Kyrie resigns, he needs to sit down with Luka and tell him what he wants out Luka this offseason.
I blame luka for the roster construction, luka requested players who were willing to stand around and watch him play hero ball. That's why kristaps left, brunson left and kyrie is next. 95% of mavs roster is just happy to be in the NBA.

Absolutely has been getting too much blame. The main area he needed to improve was defense and that is better when the rest of the team is better on offense. And yes I know he needs not to whine so much but he does get fouled a lot.
I don't understand how much recency bias plays a role in the NBA narratives which is such a long season. Makes more sense in NFL.

Yes, Luka is getting too much blame. Kidd and the rest of the team has plenty of the blame to share. However, everything Isaac mentioned is a valid criticism of Luka. His fitness level, the complaining, and his body language has been terrible this season. The glaring at the bench and throwing his hands up when someone makes a mistake. He needs to be a better teammate. You can tell he has no friends on the team now that DoeDoe is gone. He can turn it around, but it will take some growth on his part.
Lucka is a very selfish player and never passes to Kyrie and keeps taking shots and any one taking that amount will finally hit some of them but he is putting himself ahead of guys!!
Michael Jordan didn’t show up teammates in the games! The Last Dance is a hit job that exposed what he was doing BEHIND the scenes. Phil was able to make Scottie Pippen the point guard, which probably robbed MJ of 30 triple doubles. But, it allowed him to conserve for defense and it gave Scottie a role(other than standing in the corner) that started his ascent. So, now I why Wood is not playing despite them being 9-4 when he started. Luka doesn’t want anyone else getting glory. Is that why is been like pulling teeth to get Kidd to do “Captain Obvious” shit on the court? Like playing Hardy. Is that Luka in the way?

😎😎 Luka shouldn't be asked to dramatically change his playing style and his system of playing.
It is on the management to put the right pieces around him. And they shouldn't put another defensively challenged basketball player (Kyrie) on the downhill of his prime next to Luka, that also requires high usage and 180 degree different playing style and pace.
And i like Kyrie as a player and as a person, i just think he doesn't fit with Luka at all on the court.
They should sign and trade Kyrie to the Lakers for 2 defensive wing players, and then trade someone from the Mavs combined with first round picks for Myles Turner. That means that you should get an elite defensive center and 2 elite 3&D players as Luka's wing men in Dallas team.
Also get rid of rotational defense.
