The Lightning are second….Do they suck? The Bruins are Top 10 in the league…Do they suck? There’s no correlation (positive or negative) between how often teams fight and how good they are. The 70s teams weren’t good because they were intimidating and fought a lot. They were good because they had phenomenal goal scorers and players with tons of chemistry, a Top 10 goalie of all time, a Hall of Fame coach, and a hungry and focused young owner. Correlation doesn’t equal causation. Those teams and the LOD teams weren’t good because they were physical and imposing. They were great hockey teams that just so happened to be physical and imposing. Every team in the league fought all the time from the 70s to the 00s. It’s just a part of the game that’s inconsequential and doesn’t deserve to be hyped up or looked down upon. I watch highlights of the Flyers Senators 2004 brawl and the Flyers Penguins 2012 brawls all the time but that doesn’t say anything about how good the team actually was. Fighting in hockey doesn’t deserve to be overly praised (like the old school stuck in their ways Flyers fans) or overly hated (like Brodes and the new school fans). It just is what it is. Just my opinion on it.
It's nice to have a bruiser to protect your scorers but to constantly instigate fighting is annoying. We need to see more 5min penalties and ejections like in rangers/senators game last night.
There's having an identity and then there is refusing to adapt to the game. I knew they were in troubled when they named their stupid methed up muppet mascot "Gritty." So fucking stupid.
