A quote from Olson Johnson sums up my feelings on where the Pens are now and will be next year: "Aw, prairie shit."
I can't. He's the worst GM we've had in recent history. Actually….the only one I see is if we win out the season and go on to win the cup😂😂
DK: there is no way GMRH is not fired–kiss of death was his decision to acquire Granlund.
Here's a scenario:
The Fenway sports group doesn't show their face.
I don’t know why they ever got Hextall, what playoff productive team did he ever build in Philadelphia.
Look at what the bruins did with their head coach. Bruce Cassidy is a great coach. But they replaced him, and now the bruins are the best team in the league.
Clinging to Mike Sullivan is going to keep this team on repeat. And I don't meat repeat cups.
Hextal needs to go, he cleared his mistakes with kap and McGin and cost us blueger. All he needed to do was get a legit 3c. He failed and now our 3rd line is as lost as it was in the first place.
Sully will get another season based on his resume and him being a Boston boy. I think that is the wrong play. This team needs a new leader with a new system at this point. That may be the only thing that actually helps this team play structured and protect leads and play more than 1 period a game. Those things fall on the coach no matter who is on your roster.
Thanks DK, I agree about Sully. Sully helped us get 2 cups and his years as an assistant coach paid off then and now. This off season it’s time to go after the real issue, Ron, bad deals, and cleaning up Ron’s mess. If you look at the 2016/17 pens to now, no one on that bench looks like they’re really alive. (Pre playoff photos) the team had depth, talent, and chemistry. I think they have all of it now, maybe not the same strength of those prior. No one solves a problem by dancing around it. Time to fire your buddy Ron and get a new one. Nothing changes until you do. This is a business, sorry for the cut throat but if you’re underperforming as a GM, buhhhbye! Now back on topic, I do believe it’s there now, (what the pens had years ago) and hey, I don’t think the overwhelming negativity from the fan base helps either. After every One loss it’s fire everyone quit Pittsburgh and leave town. No. Just Fire what’s holding us back and it seems to be just one. Relax, these things happen sometimes. Support the team when they need it most!! Let’s go pens!! We are slower and older, but the experience and skill is there, play smarter play better.
Nah, I'm not cutting Sullivan that much slack for this season. He had plenty of opportunities to make player adjustments when it was clear something/anything needed to be done, and stuck with the status quo in a stubbornly defiant way. He – to a fault – caters to veterans who aren't performing over younger players, and he's the coach of a team of mostly veterans who with the mistakes made and fundamentals missed, play like they're new to the game a lot of times. Sullivan putting Carter out on defensive zone draws at the end of games and in OT alone should get a coach fired. This team isn't going to benefit from an injection of youth at any time (which is what they need) with Sullivan at the helm. They won't get the look and chance they deserve with Sullivan as coach. If anything, Hextall was catering to Sullivan's desires with a lot of these signings. The team defense and special teams woes aren't Hextall's fault either. When you see an entire team collectively play like they were put on the lobotomy table go south like this seemingly overnight, it's on the coach 99% of the time. Either they tuned him out, or he won't change what needs changing. It happened when Bylsma was here, and the level of team stupid and non-compete I'm seeing now is like Deja vu. This team needs new and younger in a lot of areas, coaching isn't exempt. I just pray they don't replace him with Reirden, as I'd like to see him gone (again) too.
Never forget….#FIREHEXTALL
What do you think McCann would be doing if he were still with the Penguins? Think he'd have 36 goals? Think Sullivan would utilize him in the proper fashion to succeed as much as he has in Seattle? Same goes for Tanev. The players were marginalized here. Remember when McCann was given a shot on the failing PP when Malkin was injured and it magically took off? Remember when Malkin came back and they took McCann off the PP just becuase how dare you not. That's just a microcosm of why this team is dysfunctional. Catering to players who should be capable, and have been capable in the past, versus simply playing the players who for whatever reason can do a better job.
I feel like no one is talking about how horrendous Heinen has been this year.
Hextail didn’t necessarily make bad moves 🤨.. think the dumo, Murray, Marino, signs hurt worse.. should have let those players walk around same time Boston blew up their roster, but cant blame Rutherford for trying to maximize the cores window
FIRE HEXTALL 👏 👏👏👏👏
My opinion is that you replace the GM and Burke. And if I was the new GM, one of my demands would the permission to fire Sullivan if things haven’t improved by Thanksgiving next year. The things that I am looking to be improved are 2 things, consistency and the power play.
I'm thinking Fenway Sports Group doesn't care, so no one will get fired or be pressured to do anything different for next year. They just see their team is in play-off contention right now & so everything is status quo with no problems. So frustrating!!!
Im as frustrated as anyone here. But look, we have the longest playoff streak in pro sports. Weve had incredible players to behold. I remember times when even strength shifts looked like power plays. Remember the cycling til the other teams would just fall down as Sid kept the puck for eternity? This team converted me into a hockey fan back in 07' and im from TX for christ sake. We dont do hockey. At least then. Now I admit theres been mistakes and outright neglect this season. I feel really bad for the guys. But lets focus on the amazing things weve seen all these years. Plus we even have Potash for christ sake. POTASH. Lets give these guys the respect they deserve, lets show up to the games and maybe even cheer HARD. Myself included, Im gonna do better. Lets GO. I love this team. Lets keep up the positivity and focus.
People need to eat a dose of reality; the current Penguins franchise are one of the worst run professional sports teams. The Pittsburgh Pirates currently have a better chance of competing, and they have almost no chance.
From the Front office, to the Coaching staff in Pittsburgh and WBS down to the Scouting department; the franchise needs cleansing.
I think the answer is simple. When a team has a lousy Defense group of 6 (other than Letang) and inconsistent/unreliable/not rugged goaltenders this is what you get. There is far far far too much emphasis on the forwards here. A good defense would make the bottom 6 much better…The top 3 forwards or more are so good they can do it on their own. The Pens may have the worst D in the league collectively…for a long time now.
I agree Hextall needs to be let go. Sullivan is not the issue. It's the players on the ice. The stars are "old" and the support around them, the 3rd and 4th lines and some line-mates, are not adequate. They can win with the big 3, but the supporting players added stink the ice up.
Hextall is the worst GM in the NHL. Time to launch Hextall and Sully and rebuild.
