The author seems to highly value size so it makes sense in this context. I feel like the other top prospects did not that such an impressive year either and no one managed to make our pick look bad yet. Well except maybe Hutson but he is ours so 😉

I will admit I thought we should draft cooley and I still think that but the potential with Slaf is just a lot higher.

However people felt before the draft is likely the same way they feel now. All the things that got Slafkovsky drafted #1 are still true. Until someone drafted below him makes an NHL impact, it’s still way too early to say it was a mistake.

I’m still high on Slafkovsky. This year was a wash and was to just get him some reps – still think he should’ve been in Laval but beyond that, I’m excited for him to start fresh next year.

I also hope he gets to consistently play with Dach on the second line next year (or Suzuki if he performs). He got some good experience on the third line but he needs top-six opportunities to thrive imo.

Slaf is still a very skilled power forward, which is not a common combination. He should be a force for years to come.

Not every 1st OA comes into the show and dominates, it takes a few years of seasoning. Look at Jack Hughes or Svechnikov in Carolina. It can take some time to acclimate and then theyre studs.

I thought Wright was doing really well in the OHL after the trade, wasn’t he?

it’s best if I say nothing

He’ll be good. Needs two more years to start to come into his own.

Nobody below him has been brilliant. Time will tell.

Slafko’s unique attributes were irresistible to HuGo, at the draft. I understand that and I am willing to continue observing his development. He is my mom means guaranteed to turn out as the most valuable player of his draft class, but there’s a decent chance he will.

I hate to play the devils advocate, but Slaf hasn’t shown much this year. I think Cooley overtakes him as the clear #1 player from the draft, especially with his 60 pts season in the NCAA.

For the others such as Nemec, Jiricek, Gauthier, Wright, it remains to be seen.
