I have watched a bunch of avs games the last two years. Makar and Hughes are really interesting to compare.

Makar has a much better shot and plays more aggressive. Hughes protects the puck better. Maybe much better? Lol. Maybe much much better! I would like to see the puck on stick stats like they have in the game but for the year. I suspect Hughes is at the top of that list.

Skating, passing, and defense are pretty much a wash. Avs fans blow their load when makar breaks his check’s ankles but hughes does it every game.

Canucks power play entry is better because Hughes is an amazing safety valve. Makar is not that guy. Their entries are macK going fast taking a late drop with some traffic. It doesn’t work as well.

Makar starts offence by driving the net. Hughes likes to go wide and look for passes.

I prefer having Hughes tho. Makar spent a huge portion of this year injured because of his style of play. Hughes gives up some offence but protects himself much better.

Man, he’s only 23. Imagine this guy at 26, 27. Future Norris for sure

The guy has an unreal vision on the ice. The plays he makes and starts show his talent. Im no hockey expert but ive never seen a canuck defenseman play like him.

Makar is fantastic for sure but let’s not forget his defensive partner is Devon Toews. Hughes played the majority of the time with Myers or Bear.

I don’t think I’ve ever been as comfortable with a player when they have the puck on their stick as I do with Hughes. He controls the game exceptionally well all over the ice, but especially in the D-zone. He’s basically developed into an automatic zone exit machine. And he can skate it out and pass it. Offence aside, that’s my favourite part of his game, just watching him break pucks out. It’s incredible to watch.
