Opinion. Leafs should line match Matthews – Marner against Tampas top line.
Last 3 playoffs (5 on 5):
Matthews – 17GP 5G 5A 10P
Marner – 17 GP 2G 6A 8P
Matthews-Marner xG% last 3 playoffs (5 on 5):
2019/2020 – 57.1%
2020/2021 – 67.7%
2021-2022 – 64.7%
Like it or not Matthews and Marner haven’t been able to take advantage of easier line matchups over the past 3 playoffs. However, they have been able to dominate possession and scoring chances. If 34 and 16 can control scoring chances, and be elite defensively against Tampa’s top line then on paper the Leafs 2-4 lines are much better than Tampas.

Man some of the comments on Twitter to this tweet are horrendous. Ppl acting like we’re gonna walk all over them just because we have a better lineup on paper? Not a second had been played in this series yet but here we are. Some of our fans never learn to respect the opposition and is surprised when a superior team loses to a supposed inferior team in a game of inches.
If leafs lose to Tampa they have to blow up the team right?
Hedman and their Super line be damned, the rest of that roster looks EXTREMELY beatable. Leafs in 6 baby
I am honestly so nervous
Dump it in the left corner and attack their first year first line RHD and their 21 NHL games second line RHD hard. 0 playoff games experience between the two of them by the way.
Leafs in 5…some fans here are so god damn soft and just scarred from the past. Ooooh it’s the Lightning they made three straight Cups! They have Vasy! I mean at the end of the day nothing any of us fans say is going to mean a damn thing once the puck drops. The bottom line is the Leafs are the much better team heading into this series and this has shown in the run of play over the last 2.5 months. It’s up to the players now to get over the hump and get the monkey off their back. At this stage of the core’s growth there is absolutely no excuses if we don’t get past Tampa. NONE. I’ll scream it again the LEAFS ARE THE FAR SUPERIOR TEAM.
I’m going to be very upset if we lose to a defense core where a guy whose name sounds like a cereal brand is playing on the top pairing 😭
