It's cool and all but that all goes away in [ what..? ] five days? It's an accomplishment but honestly; same vein as winning a game 200-1. They clinched their trip to hang out with Biden ages ago. P.S. – Jack Edwards needs to start preparing something to say ahead of these huge moments. His rambling is really ruining whatever nice touch he's trying to put on these moments. The bruins will be haunted by the Arizona game from December, because if they win, tomorrow night will be at 135 points which is eight point percentage of .8231 with that point they lost from the call that should’ve been disallowed because it should be an icy they’d be at .8293004 points percentage above the 7778 Habs
I'm no Oilers fan but when Boston wins 4 Stanley cups in a row and scores over 400 goals a season them I'll think about it
Boston would decimate them… Just how they treat their bodies train and most of all stamina.. A couple of high shots over Ken Dryden head Would have him 2nd guessing

Well, in response to the best team in history, I was born in 82 so the 77 Canadiens were before my time so I don't know much about them but growing up I idolized teams like the Kings with Gretsky and Robitaille and Pittsburgh with Lemieux and Jagr. Those guys are legends, no doubt, but as far as the team as a whole, these Bruins have been the most fun for me to follow. You never know where the goals are gonna come from. The team chemistry is also great. They are entertaining to watch both on and off the ice. Great group of guys. I'm biased because I'm a Bruins fan but the numbers speak for themselves. I just keep thinking back to the Pat's perfect season where they lost the Super Bowl 😖. The Bruins are gonna have to get the Cup if they want the recognition as the best team in NHL history. My 2 cents. Go Bruins!
there is no comparison. the skill level today is light years better then it was when the Habs set that record. this isn’t even close even if they don’t win the cup
not saying todays guys arent tough, but back then, some of the goalies didnt even wear masks, the badass factor was off the charts
Not a Boston fan myself. But… if my team had played a season as dominatingly brilliant as Bruins have… I would definitely call that team one of the best all time! In this era of very even teams such… domination is amazing! If I was a Bruins fan I would be so proud. Good luck with the playoffs, though. Goaltending was a joke back then when compared to today. Goalies have never been harder to score on
They may have the most wins, but they are nowhere near the best team in NHL history. Ullmark got hurt last night, now they have their excuse to choke it up.

Thank you so much for saying exactly what I want to yell at my radio whenever Felger and Mazz are on. I don't think I disagreed with a single thing you said. I've always told people that older players would be as good among other players in this generation as they were among other players in their generation if they were trained and coached with modern methods and I always thought that was just common sense but so many people don't get it. Also goaltender pads are much bigger and lighter now than they were in the 1970s which also contributes to modern goaltenders looking better than older ones. I also noticed what you mentioned about how the Canadiens would not have had the cap space for nine hall of famers with a modern salary cap unless they took extremely team friendly deals (which I doubt they would). I don't mind comparing individual players from different eras but comparing teams from different eras is almost impossible. I really don't know why so many people feel the need to decide whether the current Bruins team or the late 1970s Canadiens team was better.
And man that Gerry Cheevers save at 0:38. Who needs to tie up the puck when you can just tell it to get the hell out of here. I wish that wasn't a 2 minute penalty nowadays.

It's an amazing thing with what a surprise it is. I'm a caps fan and it reminds me of watching them in their stanley cup run. every caps fan thought they were the worst team in recent years and figured they wouldn't make it far, but I learned a lot watching them in the playoffs and win the cup and made me realize that team chemistry is the most important thing. When the chemistry is there, every player is raised to their highest potential which is what I think is happening with this bruins team.
This team beats the habs team. 100% , almost 50% more teams and no salary cap, along with the fact every single person in the league these days is just so much more knowledgeable and skilled then back in the 70s
What makes this team the best ever, much of it doesn't show in stats or even visible to the eye, it's the chemistry, the unselfish teammates, guys who lift guys up when they see a teammate down or troubled, it's in the players themselves, on top of incredible playmaking, scoring, goaltending and great coaching.

Considering there were was no overtime or shootout point the 76' Canadiens were by far the better team statistically. Not to mention the bruins needed 81 games to exceed 132 points where the 76' Canadiens achieved 132 in 80 games played. Not to mention the 76' Canadiens had 60 regulation wins eclipsing the bruins this season. While still impressive and I love to see the record they are a head and shoulders below the 76' Canadiens

It means you’re playing the same GARBAGE TEAMS OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!! Not anywhere near as difficult as when you’re in a 32 TEAM LEAGUE AS THE B’s currently are….just some facts for thought for everyone!!
The best team? I’m a B’s fan. This isn’t the best team. We can have that conversion if they win the cup. Until then, they aren’t even in the top 50. Even if they win the cup, they won’t be the best team ever. They won’t even be in the top 5.

Actually Montreal was and still is the best in history. Montreal only had 8 losses. Boston isn’t even close they have 12 losses. Montreal is still the best in history. They were plus 215 in goals differential. Boston is plus 126. It’s not even close. Nobody will ever come close to Montreal’s 8 losses.
I think the salary cap argument is what puts the Bruins over the top as best team ever.

It's hard to be unbiased since I'm a lifelong Canadiens fan. The Canadiens of the '70s was my team and Dryden still gets my vote for best goalie ever, even if he isn't. But I don't watch as much as I used and I've barely seen Boston this year. Are they that good? Certainly have the numbers.
I don't think salary cap and parity are a factor. There are some really bad teams out there. In my mind, Montreal was the best. Partly because it wasn't just one season. Can Boston dominate again next year? How many Hall of Famers will they eventually tally? Really this is a question for a few years from now.
But I want to make another point. And remember, this is coming from a huge Habs fan, specifically of that era. They were cheaters. Not the players themselves. The organization. The late '70s was their last dynasty, the maturing of the players that represented their final opportunity to take advantage of exclusive right to QMJHL players. Once that was over and they had to play by the same draft rules as everybody else, how many Cups? Not so great without a leg up. So I gotta say (to anyone except my brother the Bruins fan), I am absolutely in awe at what Boston has accomplished this year, perhaps with less talent than Montreal had. And I'll watch them in the playoffs to satisfy my curiosity that they really are that good. Best ever?

What was impressive with the habs, is that for 3 consecutive season they post respectively seasons of 127, 132, 129 pts while alson winning the cup.

The comparison doesn't make sense because the Canadians were playing against equals in ripping cigs and guzzling whiskey. The Bruins are playing against the nutrition and training. So the comparison is equal.
