Confused how the defenseman with the second most points has the 13th best offense

Hmmm, so Jason Robertson is top-10 in offense and top-5 in defense?
Boligno
Karlson’s d rating lol.
PaperMoonShine
Dallas got the 3rd best forward and 6th best defenseman out of the 2017 draft. Where they climbed like 10 spots to pick 3rd from the Lottery. We need that kind of luck.

Could you imagine if we had just kept Nate Schmidt instead of going all out to acquire a worse defenseman?
ManyArmedGod
Ahhh Nate Schmidt 5th best defensive rating eh? I don’t know about this modeling

I think there’s probably a reason no one uses this model.

Tell me a model is worthless without telling me a model is worthless.

How is Hughes not ranked top 5 for offense?
JerbearCuddles
Def is weighted less than offense. Intriguing.
RevDaddy69
Petey surprisingly high and Hughes surprisingly low. Hughes had the most assists by a Canuck not named henrik
Robscoe604
i would argue Hughes is definitely in the top ten

I think analytics are very useful, but I find it weird how many people on Twitter just take the numbers at face value and use it as their sole judgement of a player. Would be a lot better to know how the model actually operates, but I doubt they’d ever put that out there.

When Elias and Quinn play for much better teams and with better teammates their numbers will explode.
nihilism_ftw
Zach Hyman as 6th best offense is exhibit A in the « Dom still hasn’t figured out how to separate individual players from linemates »

This looks like it weighs goals too heavily for dmen.

Crazy that there’s a bigger jump rating wise between Tkachuk and Draisaitl than between Tkachuk and McDavid.
Young2k04
Dom’s model completely fails to seperate players from their teams and line mates. I mean like Burns has always been hot garbage at defence and his player card this year had him in the 100th percentile for defence as soon as he starts playing for Carolina.
